be alone. That he loved her, which he had finally said the week before. She’d known he’d been struggling with the courage to tell her and had let him get there in his own time.
Next to the bed, his cell phone vibrated. She grabbed it before it could disturb him and ran into the other room to answer it. When she looked down, she saw a text message addressed to her. How could that be?
Hello, Kaylee.
Who in the world could know she’d be looking at Joe’s phone? The answer dawned on her like a light bulb turning on. The same someone who had set up this wonderful relationship she’d been lucky enough to stumble into. She texted back. Madame Evangeline?
So you and Joe have discussed me.
Kaylee felt the need to explain why she possessed Joe’s phone. It’s the day after a full moon. Joe is sleeping off the night.
Yes, I know, which is why I am talking to you. You can give him a message for me, yes?
Ah…sure. Kaylee looked around for a piece of paper to take down whatever Eve needed.
He did not hire me but I will assume he is happy with my services. You may tell him my bill is in the mail.
Your bill is in the mail? For a second, Kaylee was confused until she realized what Eve meant. Eve had provided Joe with Kaylee. I’ll let him know.
She flipped the phone closed, slightly uncomfortable with the thought. Joe might not like the intrusion. He had the biggest heart in the world, but needed to be immensely private.
Well, if he wouldn’t pay it, she would.
Truthfully, she knew herself to be the luckiest woman in the world. She’d had one night with a wolf and it had changed her life so tremendously that the memories of how terrible it had been before faded from her mind more each day she was with Joe.
Quietly, she crept back into the bedroom. As she repositioned herself on the bed next to Joe, she smiled. His home belonged to her, too, and she’d never have to leave it.
Leaning over she whispered in his ear. “I love you, too.”
