“You really don’t want to do that,” Buffy said, wiping dirt off her hands and smoothing back her hair.
“What is it?” he asked.
“I’ll tell you later,” she said.
Riley caught up to them, glaring at Angel and giving Buffy a hand up. Angel pushed himself to his feet.
“We have some company,” Riley said. He cocked a thumb over his shoulder.
A police car blocked the mouth of the alley, its light bar flashing red and painting the alley walls with its fire-like glow. Two police officers stood behind the car, guns drawn and pointed their way.
Angel glanced in the other direction, at the far end of the alley. Another police car idled there, two more officers drawing down on them.
“Freeze!” one of the cops shouted.
Angel recognized the voice.
It belonged to Bo Peterson.
