I didn’t plan on sleeping that night from the constant worry that the rain would pick up again, but I found myself waking up leaning on one of the walls in the open room on the second floor. I got a fire going last night but by the looks of it was long gone. I went start to get up and froze as my neck and back protested from being in an awkward position all night. I did some slow inhales of breath and slowly popped my joints to loosen them with moaning and groaning and eventually I was able to get up.
I slowly made it to my feet and looked around. My house smelled like wet wood and mildew and my clothes didn't smell any better. I let out a sigh, as I looked around the caked mudded floor and began cleaning up all the buckets and damp towels. I placed all the dirty towels in a stack in the laundry room and the feeling of “I can’t wait” to get electricity and being able to use my washer and dryer.
After I cleaned up the towels and buckets I headed back upstairs to the master shower. It was ripped down to the bare bones of the wall but I kept the water going. I didn’t have a water heater yet, but my skin felt like it was caked in mud and I needed something to help cool and refreshing to ease my sore muscles.
I hurried and put on clean clothes, well the cleanest I had and I made my way down stairs. I grabbed my wallet, keys and sun glasses and headed out to gather all the supplies that I needed.
