Ivy barked at the man on the side of the road. He was outside the truck. If he was outside the truck then he was not inside the truck and if he was not inside the truck then Denise had not let him inside the truck and that meant DANGER and she told him that she was ready, willing and able to defend Denise and the truck because she was in charge of taking care of Denise and the inside of the truck when she was inside of the truck. Only people who Denise had let inside of the truck with her gentle voice when they were inside of the truck were not dangerous. When Denise took Ivy out of the truck or out of the house, she was always on the look out for DANGER, but it was harder to spot because they were not inside the truck or inside the house. Denise told her that people were allowed to be outside without “causing such a fuss.” But Denise couldn’t smell them. They smelled like DANGER sometimes and it was up to Ivy to warn Denise. Denise sometimes got ANGRY with her and told her to SIT or SHUT UP. She always listened to Denise. She LOVED Denise. Denise would give her big hugs and kisses and treats and scraps “even though I’m not supposed to” because Denise LOVED her too.
For now, Denise was SAFE in the truck so Ivy gave her a little kiss and looked back out the window in case there was someone else who needed to know that Ivy was doing her job.
