About the Authors
Born with cerebral palsy, 16-year-old Nujeen Mustafa had barely ever left her family apartment in Aleppo when she was forced to flee by the bombing raids of a regime determined to quash a revolution even if they turned ancient cities to rubble in the process. She had no formal education in Syria but taught herself English by watching US soap operas. For the first time in her life she felt herself useful translating for her sister Nasrine as the pair navigated their way from Turkey across seven borders all the way to Germany where they now live.
Christina Lamb OBE is one of Britain’s best known foreign correspondents and winner of numerous awards for reporting on everything from wars in Afghanistan to Libyan detention cells. She travelled the refugee trail on both main routes from Libya and Turkey across Europe. She is the author of the best-selling The Africa House, Waiting for Allah, The Sewing Circles of Herat, Small Wars Permitting, Farewell Kabul and I am Malala, co-authored with Malala Yousafzai.
