A Dangerous Mistake

“Hello?”
“Hi Kathy, it’s Joe. Sorry I missed visiting hours. How’s our fighter doing?”
“Hey, Joe. Gunner’s pulling through just fine. He won’t play ball anymore, at least not for a year or two, on account of the severe concussion and the shattered kneecaps. He’s fit to be tied over it.”
“Yeah. I can understand.”
“Don’t you worry about it, Joe. You’ve done enough already.”
“I guess.”
“Did you go by that guy’s house like you said you would?”
“I did. He wasn’t there, but I’ll try again later.”
“Please do. It would make me feel a lot better. I still can’t believe you found it.”
“Don’t worry, I will. Thanks for the update, Kathy.”
“No Joe. It’s you I have to thank. Gunner too. He might not be here if not for you, which pretty much makes you our hero for life.”
