Revenge is Sweet
some because they hate what their country has become, some because saving your family is the right thing to do.”
Then he looked at me in the dawn and I felt sadness well up, “We must kill too many people to save your mother and sister. Some of those will be my friends, people I served with, partied with, worked and fought with. Try to not enjoy killing because I will hate killing my friends and will mourn for them afterwards.”
“Then why do that?”
“Because by helping the government capture and torture and murder you and your family, they proved that my government has become the evil that it tries to vanquish. They don’t even realize that there is no difference between those doctors and Joseph Mengele, that they are the same as the SS who guarded the Nazi Concentration Camps. When my friends become that evil, and cannot see what they have done, then I must do what is right even it my friends call me a traitor.”

They implanted us with knowledge of star-ships and between the four of us, we should be able to build one, IF we can stay alive and free long enough. Or at the least, a May-Day device to call the Fleet to rescue us. And Drakonis never allows anyone to live long enough to brag about harming its citizens. It’s time to go now Miriam, time to find your destiny and your family.”
He kissed me and I wanted one more loving, to have anther memory of that wonderful place before we fought our way across the nations and people who stood between me and my family so I pulled his hand and called, “First, once more for me, then we go.”
