The Adventures of Dr. Shadows, Book 1: The Eye of Darkness
Chapter Four: Arrests and Twists
“I have no knowledge of how that got into my room!” the Japanese Professor protested.
The group pushed their way into the room, including Henry Gordon who stepped out of his wheelchair. They stared in stunned silence at the medallion lying on the bed.
The German held up the shirt with a white knuckled grip. His face tightened into a grimace and went red with rage. “You swine,” he yelled, “How could you hurt Lila?” He started to charge across the room, but Dr. Shadows stepped into his path to intercept him.
The two men collided and the American had to wrap his arms around him to stop him pushing past. “That is not an answer, Gunter.”
The Japanese barely reacted to the attack and raced across the room to a dresser where he pulled out a drawer and turned it over, dumping its contents to on the top of the dresser to check the bottom. There on the underside was taped another medallion. “This is mine,” he said, “I have never seen that one.”
“Yes you have,” Lila said in a shrill voice. “That is mine!”
“I vill crush you for hurting her!” The German scientist strained against the American who pushed him back against the wall of the cabin.
“Stop now, Von Shultz,” Dr. Shadows said, “or you will end up in the brig. We will take care of this.”
“I will see that they are locked up in the purser’s safe as you suggested, Dr. Shadows,” Lila said. “I should have listened to you before.”
“Ishi,” Professor Gordon said, “no matter how this looks I know you are not responsible for that attack.”
“Thank you, Henry,” the Japanese said.
“I think we need to adjourn to the brig,” Dr. Shadows said, “and get those things in a safe.”
