Taming Kane, Claiming Mia
*
“Who needs her anyway?” Brittany waved a dismissive hand in the air after Kane shared the news about Melanie Cryer ditching him as her physical therapist. “She was as flaky as they come.”
“I get what you’re saying, but we cannot continue losing clients like this.” Kane paced the floor in his sister’s office.
“Would you calm down before you wear a hole in the floor?” Brittany teased. “Seriously though, I understand your concerns, but what you need to realize is that things are going to get a lot worse before they get any better. We had a major scandal breakout here and it’s not like it’s going to go away at the bat of an eye.”
“I know. It’s just crazy to me that people want to leave.”
“People are entitled to do whatever they want to do.”
“You’re right. They are, I just don’t necessarily agree with it, especially when Melanie told me that she knows that she won’t receive proper treatment elsewhere.”
“She said that?”
Kane nodded. “Yeah.”
“Okay. Now, I can see why you are so annoyed. Anyway listen things are going to work out. Thankfully, we have been in business so long the blow won’t hurt us to bad. Our body of work will continue to speak for itself.”
“How can you be so sure?”
“Well, dad put me in touch with some of his longtime investors and they reassured me that we will be okay for a while.”
“That’s good to know, but I don’t want us dipping all the way into our reserve cash.”
“Right, but just know I am working on a few things as well as a new campaign that will probably land us some new clients sooner than you think.”
“I trust you.”
“Good, because I don’t really feel like discussing anything until I am sure they are going to pan out.”
“Okay. So I will stop stressing for now.”
“Good. Oh hey, I just wanted you to know that Steph and I were able to narrow the candidates down to about six. The ten we discussed last night just ended up being too many to try and interview in one day seeing as that her last day is this Friday. So I am going to start conducting interviews tomorrow.”
“Sounds like a plan.”
“Now, I’m just waiting on a fax from Sylvia Jameson at Temporary Solutions in Beachwood with the six candidates’ resumes.”
Beachwood. All of Kane’s pent up frustration immediately drained from his body. His heart skipped a beat. Miss Congeniality was in Beachwood. I need to see her.
“As soon as Sylvia sends those resumes over, I’m going to start calling people about tomorrow. Do you want to sit in on the conference calls with Stephanie and I?”
He headed for the door. “I trust you and Steph. Just go with your gut.”
“Where are you going? Is everything okay?” Brittany struggled to her feet.
“Sit down.” He motioned for his sister to have a seat. “I’m fine. You two order some lunch. Going to call a few clients and rearrange my schedule, then I am going to grab a quick bite to eat.” He raced to his office in search of his cell phone. He was on a mission to find Miss Congeniality.
