  Twist watched his apartment from the bushes. Fox and his lousy Scooby gang pulled up, just as expected. Well, he’d taken the boxes of magic with him, thrown clothes around the bedroom to make it look like he’d left town, which was the most logical thing to do.

  He wasn’t beaten, though. He had a plan.

  One more day. Wait for the state cops to arrive, the big fucking know-it-alls. With them in town, everyone would feel safe.

  Right. Because pushover Pal would just turn tail and run.

  Pfft. He wasn’t Pal any more. He was Twist.
