You're Not Alone
Chapter Nine
“Good morning. I have some breakfast and tea ready for you, but I can pack it up if you would like to take it with you.” Andjela was sitting at a tall dining table next to a window. The morning light was streaming in and it radiated around her. There was a striking contrast between her jet-black hair and her pure, white skin. Her green eyes were dark, and her lips were a faint shade of pink, but it wasn’t her beauty in the morning sum that caught my breath; it was the same glow around her I saw the night before.
I sat down quickly because I felt my knees giving way.
“Still tired?” she asked with a sly smile.
Oh, my God, I hope she isn’t getting the wrong idea.
“It’s okay, Quinn. I’ve had this reaction from other people before.”
Modest or cocky? I quickly accepted the mug she slid across the table to me and took a sip, shame going down my throat with the warm, chamomile flavored tea. I barely knew her.
“When the connection is strong, people have told me they see a glow around me.”
Phew! I took a deep breath and relaxed. That was all she thought my reaction was; just to the glow around her and to all she was referring to. Why am I being an idiot? I thought to myself. I didn’t know why I was so nervous but I realized I had nothing to be nervous about. Andjela was only trying to help me. I knew that.
“Sorry. I didn’t mean to gawk.”
“Like I said, it’s okay.”
“I thought you said there were no spirits here.”
“There aren’t. The connection is with you. The spirits are strong with you, and I can feel it even here.”
I felt a little alarmed, but true to Andjela’s personae she reassured me. “Don’t worry; they didn’t follow you here. When you’re that connected, often spirits can sense your presence no matter where you are. But it’s not in the way you think. It’s kind of like those white fluffy clouds in the sky. They’re just floating around—they don’t mean any harm.”
I smiled at her. “Thank you for that, and for the breakfast. I’ll take it with me. I really should get home so I can get ready for work.”
“Okay. Let’s pack this up and get you home.”
