Hidden Magic
Chapter Eight.
Polly had received reports of strange objects flying over a secluded forest area of Earth. She had taken her troupes there and they were now making their way through the thick bush. Polly had just received Amosa’s message and was in a hurry to find the spaceship that Temorvick’s minions would have arrived on. Temorvick didn’t have the ability to teleport like the Sians did but he had ships that moved faster than anybody could imagine.
They stomped over thick bush and twigs snapped under their feet as they walked. From the north, Polly could see evidence of a ship. An irregular shaped piece of metal was visible from above the trees.
“Over there!” Polly shouted. She was getting slightly tired. They had been walking for an hour and she hadn’t done any exercise in quite some time. Unless you count mixing cake batter of course.
They made their way to the location of the ship and scouted out the area. The massive ship cast a dark shadow over them. It was made of shiny reflective material so it looked camouflaged among the tall trees.
The attack was unexpected and came from behind. Trus Sera dropped to the ground, blood trickling from her chest. Her world turning dark as she fell.
Polly turned around and saw her fall to the ground. “We’re under attack!” she shouted.
The girls drew weapons and scoured the area. Luci Zeni rushed to the fallen girl and examined her wound. “She’s been hit by a razor fiend!” A razor fiend was a minion of Temorvick’s who would attack with poison claws. Their attacks drew more blood than usual because of their jagged claws. They have the ability to turn invisible and command their slain victims to come back to life and fight for them.
The Sians all stared at each other wondering what to do. They had heard about razor fiends in their training but never actually fought one because they are very rare and saved for fierce battles. If Luci wasn’t there they probably wouldn’t have recognized that’s what had attacked Trus.
Luci addressed them again, “Be careful! The razor fiend will still be here somewhere.” As if responding to her words, another girl cried out in pain.
Sharp, burning pain stung the girl’s chest. Warm salty blood in her mouth was the last thing she thought about before falling to the ground.
“No!” A nearby girl shouted at her fallen friend.
“Fire up the ground! If they are hurt they come out of stealth!” Luci shouted.
Polly placed both hands towards the ground and drew ferocious flames up from the dirt. The flames didn’t harm the Sians but quickly brought the razor fiend out of hiding.
Polly stared at the fiend with thoughts of revenge. The razor fiend snarled and hissed at the girls. He didn’t like the fact that they could see him now. He was completely covered with black clothing but had long sharp claws that looked like jagged scimitars where hands should be.
Immediately the Sians attacked. Fire bolts and missiles resembling lasers flew toward the razor fiend. He jumped high into the air and dodged their attacks. One fire bolt hit his leg as he returned to the ground.
“Rise and fight!” He pointed his claws at both slain girls. Trus’s lifeless body started to move, followed closely by the other girl.
“Don’t be fooled, girls! They are not your friends!” Polly shouted. “Defend yourselves!”
The possessed girls jumped up and started to fight. They appeared to have became much stronger. Trus approached Polly and swiftly punched her with great force. Polly went soaring to the ground and hit a tree.
Her whole body hurt but she stood up to fight. Trus walked to her with an expressionless face. Polly dodged her attacks and pushed her onto the ground. Polly raised her hand into the air and drew a circle. A magic hole started to form under Trus. The ground gave out under her. A fire pit greeted her reanimated body as she fell into the hole.
When Polly looked up the Sians had taken care of the other possessed Sian. They were now approaching the razor fiend who was holding his claws out in defense. Polly stepped forward and used her magic to rip off his claws. She guided the claws with her hands and sent them soaring into the razor fiend’s chest. A sickening grating sound was heard and then he fell to the ground with blood coursing from his body.
Polly stretched her aching back and sighed. She had never lost a girl under her command before. Today she had lost two.
“There was nothing we could have done,” Luci said thoughtfully. “We didn’t know there was going to be a razor fiend here.” Luci could tell Polly was feeling guilty.
“Burn the other one’s body. In case she wakes up again,” Polly said stiffly and walked toward the ship.
Polly walked around to the back of the ship and found an open door. All of the girls went inside, preparing for a fight, but it was empty. They were too late.
All of the shades had already been released to the unsuspecting public.
