Pure Blood
Chapter Four
A boy about fourteen years old stood up and walked towards a door. This door was silver like metal, but it bent when he touched it. He studied the door for a second. Words began to appear on the sleek door.

Where your mind will be tried, challenged, and stretched to the beyond.
He stared at the words for a few moments and then they faded away. He reached for the door again, wanting to pass through it, but heard someone get up behind him and run toward him.
“Lake! Don’t! Please! Don’t go through there. That other boy never came back. Something terrible could have happened to him. Please. Don’t.” The boy named Lake turned around and looked down into two misty eyes. He brushed his thumb across the girls’ cheek.
“Tashina. This is something I have to do. Don’t ask me to explain it because I can’t. What if you’re all wrong? What if what’s on the other side is just a room? A normal room or maybe a lunchroom with food waiting for us. What if? I can’t stand here just thinking ‘what if’. I have to know.” The girl, Tashina, looked up into his eyes and nodded, understanding.
“Then I’m coming too.” Lake opened his mouth to protest, but then smiled. He held her hand in his and then walked toward the door. He went to push open the door, but just fell through it. Tashina fell through after him and they landed on the hard floor of an empty room. The door turned itself into a wall and locked them inside. They were alone, but at least they could see.
