INT. HOLLYWOOD, CA- JOES’ OFFICE-DAY (2009)
Joe is wearing a black and white mobster suit and smoking a cigar.
JOE
Listen, Jake. I have already told you once, one more time and that’s your head…Got it? Good…See you around 10.
Joe gets up and walks downstairs with a coffee mug.
BAM! A bullet comes straight threw the living room window and takes out Joe. His coffee mug crashes and brakes on the floor. Three mobster men tear down the door of Joe’s house and check his pulse.
MOBSTER 1
He’s out boys. This bastard owes us 5 grand.
The men leave, as Mobster 1 is leaving, he drops his badge. It reads “Snake Snapper”.
FLASHBACK TO:
EXT. HOLLYWOOD, CA- DAY (2009)
Joe’s daughter Carmen is jogging and she suddenly stops once she sees her dad’s house with the front door knocked in. She runs into the house and runs in the living room to see her father shot dead in the middle of the living room floor. She stops in awe then cries. She checks his pulse and dials 911. She then looks over to see the “Snake Snapper” badge. She picks it up and studies it carefully.
BACK TO PRESENT:
EXT. EAGLE HEIGHTS COLLEGE-AFTERNOON
LISA (CARMEN’S FRIEND)
Hello? Carmen?
CARMEN
What?
Carmen jumps to the sound of her friend’s voice.
LISA
I asked you if you wanted cream for your coffee.
CARMEN
Oh, umm no…that’s ok.
Carmen grabs her forehead and turns away while holding coffee in her left hand.
LISA
Is everything okay?
CARMEN
Yeah, just thinking about my dad.
Lisa puts her hand in her pocket and shrugs.
LISA
I’m so sorry.
CARMEN
Yeah, me too.
Lisa glances behind Carmen.
LISA
Oh! There’s Eric! Got to go! Sorry!
Lisa grabs Carmen’s shoulder.
CARMEN
No, it’s fine, go. My sisters are meeting me here.
LISA
Ok, take care! Tell them I said hi.
Lisa grabs Carmen’s shoulder and runs toward Eric. Carmen’s two sisters walk toward her.
Crystal
So, tomorrow’s the day.
Camilla
Yep, court.
Carmen sighs.
CARMEN
Well, at least we have proof. We have the badge.
CRYSTAL
Don’t worry. We got this down pat.
Carmen looks up with worried eyes.
CARMEN
What if we don’t?
CAMILLA
Don’t worry. When tomorrow comes, we will be ready.
Camilla holds onto Carmen’s shoulder.
CARMEN
Ok, tomorrow it is.
Carmen lets out a big sigh as all three of them start walking to the car to ride home.
CUT TO:
INT. CAMILLA’S APARTMENT- HOLLYWOOD, CA- AFTERNOON
Carman sets her car keys on the kitchen counter. She goes into the kitchen, and takes out a fruit juice. She drinks it straight from the bottle.
CARMEN
So, you guys crashing here?
CAMILLA
Only if you want us to.
CRYSTAL
You need us for emotional support.
Carmen looks both of her sisters in the eye as they soften. She then grows a suspicious look on her face.
CARMEN
Don’t take this the wrong way, but how come you two don’t seem so sad about this whole thing?
Camilla shoots Crystal a look.
Carmen shifts back and forth in her seat.
CARMEN
I mean, I know it was two years ago, but how can you just get over a family’s death like that?
CAMILLA
I guess you just have to be strong.
Camilla reaches out for Carmen’s hand.
CRYSTAL
She’s right. Maybe you should get some rest.
CARMEN
Yeah, I guess you guys are right.
Carmen lies down on the sofa.
CARMEN
I guess I should take a quick nap.
CAMILLA
Good idea, you need a good sleep.
Crystal goes to get a Carmen a blanket. She brings her a bed comforter.
CARMEN
Thanks
CRYSTAL
Of course, we are hear for you
Carmen smiles and tilts her head to the side. Suddenly, a suspicious look grows on Carmen’s face as she sits up.
CARMEN
Wait, what’s going on?
Camilla shoots Crystal a look.
CARMEN
Why are you two being so nice?
CAMILLA
We’re always nice.
Crystal laughs nervously.
CARMEN
Ugh, whatever. You both are so weird.
Carmen lies back down and closes her eyes. Soon enough, Carmen drifts off but only in a light sleep. Camilla and Crystal go in the other room to talk.
CAMILLA
Ok, so what are we going to do? Tell her about dad?
CARMEN
No! We can’t! It will just hurt her!
Camilla sighs and puts her hand over her head and brushes her hair back.
CAMILLA
Well, we can’t keep hiding this! Dad wasn’t really who she thought he was.
CARMEN
Well, we will just hope for the best. There’s not much we can do now.
Carmen and Camilla leave the room to find Carmen sleep. They lie on the living room floor and go to bed.
