They eyed one another as they resumed feasting upon their dinner. Peter held up a big piece of meat then used his teeth to pry bits of it off a long bone. He let out a huge belch then turned to Diane.
“Should we call them, darling?” He mocked.
Diane licked her lips.
“He’s even tastier than he looks,” she said with a smile.
“I’m glad he decided to follow me,” Jilly said, then brought a forkful of what used to be part of the man’s thigh into her mouth.
“Here’s to Jilly’s Christmas shopping,” Peter said as he lifted a wine glass to toast his daughter.
The trio gently clinked their glasses then sipped the dark crimson nectar that Peter had drained from the man.
Suddenly, their peaceful meal was disturbed by the shrill cry of a baby.
Jilly’s eyes widened.
“I forgot you brought home dessert,” she said in anticipation of the rare delicacy that awaited them. “This is the best Christmas ever....”
