Under Suspicion - The Legend of D.B. Cooper

Chet was interrupted by the cameraman who was watching the plane. Suddenly he realized that he couldn’t hear the engines. “Something appears to be wrong, ladies and gentlemen,” Chet said as he looked into the sky frantically trying to locate the plane. “The plane’s engines have stopped. What’s he doing?” There was a long silence as everyone watched the plane glide effortlessly through the air.

The producer spoke softly into a microphone attached to the small receiver in Chet’s ear. “Start talking. We’ve got to keep the audience’s attention.”

Chet pushed the earpiece tightly into place in order to hear her clearly. He looked at her confused, and didn’t know what to do.

“Nothings happening. We need some filler. Talk about anything.” The producer said into the microphone.

Chet thought for a moment and realized that the camera was on him. “You know, Agent Bradley, it’s been refreshing to talk to a law enforcement officer such as yourself. You’ve always been very cooperative and open to the press. Some government officials would’ve tried to cover up this story, but you’ve allowed us to follow its progress every step of the way.”

“Well, Chet, I’m a firm believer in the public’s right to know what’s going on around them,” Alan replied as he smiled for the camera.

“Really! Well isn’t that wonderful,” Chet said. “Have you ever thought about running for public office?”

Alan tried to look surprised at the thought. “Who me? No, Chet, all I’ve ever wanted to do was to be a damn good cop.”

“Well you certainly are that. But we sure could use someone like you in government. Maybe someday you’ll change your mind,” Chet said.

“I don’t know, I’ve never thought of myself as a politician. But if the public would support an average citizen like myself, I guess I would feel it was my duty to serve them,” Alan said as he tried to look sincere.
