Under Suspicion - The Legend of D.B. Cooper

Jim couldn’t breathe. Slowly leaning over, he put his hands on his knees and started to feel sick. He hadn’t been able to protect Buck or Rick. Guilty feelings flooded his soul.

Milhouse walked up to him. “Sheriff, are you alright?”

Jim didn’t answer as he slowly lifted his head. After a few moments, those feelings turned to rage. No! He wasn’t to blame for this, he knew. Someone will pay for this outrage! He promised himself. Bradley will pay. Jim quickly looked around, saw Agent Bradley and started towards him. His determined trot slowly turned into a sprint. Seeing what was going to happen, Milhouse had to hustle to keep up.

Chet and Alan stood out of the way as the crew started to pack up the equipment. “How did you like the part about government office? That should help you in your bid for mayor.” Chet said.

“Yes, that was quick thinking, but I think you’d better start planning on a grander scale.” Alan replied.

      “What do you mean?”

“I mean the governor’s office.” Alan said quietly.

Chet tried not to show his excitement, but it was impossible. “Do you really think so?”

“Of course. But let’s keep this between us for now. No use letting the whole world know until we’re ready.” Alan looked at the camera crew moving about.

“Oh, yeah right,” Chet said with a wink then changed the subject. “So what now?”

“I don’t know. I guess it’s over. Schaffer was my only lead.” Alan said soberly.

      “What about the finger prints?”

It could take days, even weeks to get a match. Even for the government computers,” Alan replied. “No, if Phantom has seen this report, he’s probably on his way out of the country by now.”

Jim saw Alan and Chet standing across the parking lot next to the van and ran towards them.
