would get mad, mad enough to kill him herself. “It was decided by the elders that someone had to kill the boy and just by pure luck I was appointed to kill him. I was warned that if he didn’t die then you would surely suffer. You were more important to our society than you could ever imagine.” With that he left her there speechless and heart broken. There was just too much to deal with in one night. Her meeting with the hunter, her kiss with Bran, Tara and now him going to kill the hunters.
She watched the night, the wind cool and carrying his scent. ‘I love you’ she heard the whisper in the wind and nearly broke down. Her tears were stained red with blood and she fell to the floor. He loved her? He loved her. Tara came to the door to find Maia on her knees crying and she wrapped her arms around the weeping vampire.
“Don’t worry Auntie, uncle Bran will come back to us. He always comes back.” Tara said knowingly. “Uncle Bran is too strong for them to keep him away from us.”
Maia found a little comfort from the child’s words. She picked herself off the floor and closed the door. For the next couple of days Maia was lost. She felt for the first time in her long life that she was missing something. She felt as if her other half was out there getting hurt. Tara kept her busy most of the time but sometimes her mind couldn’t help but wonder about Bran. And then there were times where she found herself staring out the window crying. It made her weak and she hated that.
Sooner or later she would need to feed but how. She knew that Tara also had to start learning to hunt. Maia dressed Tara— and herself— in a white sun dress and they headed out to hunt. But before she could even get out the door she heard the beating of hearts that stopped at her door. Maia hid Tara in the bedroom and walked over to the door. The bell rang and she opened it just moments later. Maia gasped and pulled him into her arms. She cried again and fell into the vampire’s grasp. He chuckled and let her go. He looked the same except for the change of clothing. Bran rested his head on the top of her head and kissed her strands of hair. It felt as if he was saved again. Maia pulled away from him and wiped the tears away from her eyes.
“You idiot, I thought you were dead!” She yelled then kissed him. He wrapped his arms around and hugged her close to him her waist. He had missed this. Tara came into the room and ran into her uncle’s arms.
“It’s good to see you too.” He teased and kissed Tara’s forehead. “And I brought dinner.”
“Yeah, we can see that.” Maia laughed with blood stained tears rolling down her pale cheeks.
“Tara...aren’t you sleepy my darling.” Bran asked just seconds before Tara yawned. Tara nodded and Maia looked at Bran with eyebrows raised knowing exactly what he had done. He had used his vampic will power over her to make her tired. “I wanted you all to myself.”
“Really, Bran did you have do that?” Maia asked pulling back from his arms and immediately she felt cold. It felt odd because she herself was a cold being and yet she felt cold without Bran’s arms around her.
