robotic knight. “But… but… my boss? What would he say?”
Greg winks and pours more cocoa. “He actually made the suggestion, Gemma. He’s been talking you up all week and when I asked if there was anyone he’d recommend, yours was the only name he put forward. It would mean a big pay increase, more benefits, steadier hours… what do you say?”
“Sounds too good to be true,” I bluff. “What’s the catch?”
“Unfortunately, well, since this is a new division for our company, you’d be spending an awful lot of time with… me.”
I chuckle, pausing to catch my breath. “How much time are we talking here?”
He leans in and takes my hand, gently, softly, non-threateningly.
“Gobs and gobs,” he smiles.
I leave my hand where it is and grin.
“Well,” I sigh, giving in to the night’s spell – and Greg’s charms. “Not every job can be perfect, I suppose…”
