Old Blood
Chapter 3
I was in love again for the first time in a long time. Her beauty intrigued me and I was bound and determined to win her affection. Her love was all I needed, but she looked familiar. I couldn’t help but notice she had the same two freckles on one cheek and the same birthmark on her hand. She looked like so many others before her. Her name was Victoria and I enjoyed playing a cat and mouse game with her. Her perfume was intoxicating like many a love before her. A beautiful lilac and vanilla smell. I played a chase game with her for months before she caught up with me. It was like a good game of chess, where she was the bishop and I was the rook. She could never catch me. She looked like my long lost love Angela. She also looked like Coralline, Sophia, Margareta, Katrina, and Grace. It was rather disturbing. Could she be related to all of these women? Could they be her ancestors and if so was I cursed to love the same woman until I turned her? I didn’t believe in turning someone against their own free will. I am a vampire with morals. A vampire is a life of doom because while everyone you love dies, you are destined to never die. The only way you will ever die is to starve to death, have a pierced heart, or bleed to death. I have lived for 600 years and have not died yet. Either its mere luck or I’m just smart. Maybe it’s a mix of both. As you sit here listening to me rattle on you might think I’m cocky Benjamin, but I’m not. This world just pisses me off more and more every day.
You will learn quite quickly that the life of a vampire is not a life to be taken lightly. It’s a lonely existence and every time you fall in love it’s gone in the blink of an eye. I wanted to speak to her, really I did, but my mind wouldn’t let me. The mind knows not what the heart wants, but the mind makes the final decision. I couldn’t get her out of my mind. She invaded my heart and my dreams. I was obsessed and I hadn’t even realized it. When you’re in love the only thing you can do is pray that the other person feels the same way. Preying on someone and praying that they love you is nothing more than a stalker behavior. I have lustful feelings for Victoria, but she doesn’t feel the same feelings for me back. She probably never will. She is probably attracted more the vampire side of me. That allure and mystery about me that drives women wild is enlightening. I can only imagine the feelings she has for me. I am not going to brag though.
You should never use your hypnotic powers to make someone love you. It is completely against the rules. A vampire cannot force a mortal to fall in love, steal, or kill against their own free will. They can put a mortal under hypnosis for a mortal to offer themselves or to make them forget. You will learn quite quickly that being a vampire has its advantages and disadvantages. While everyone wants to be you, everyone wants to kill you too.
