It was Friday afternoon and I was rapidly scanning a thirty-seven-page lease for one of my corporate clients. My eyes were aching from reading the fine print. It had been a tough week without Jodie around to answer the phone, file, keep up my calendar, handle correspondence and all the other myriads of tasks a legal secretary does. Most of all it had been a lonely week as I had grown accustomed to Jodie's companionship over the eight months that she had been my secretary. As I sat down to review the document the telephone rang. It was Sarah and she was upset.
"Dad and Joyce just had a big fight. Dad didn't come home last night. Joyce is really pissed off. I’m getting the hell out of here."
