Max faced Tesnayr with curiosity. “Something on your mind?”
Tesnayr pulled a gold feather from his pocket. “I need a favor.” Hours before he had woken suddenly remembering the feather the phoenix had given and knowing what to do with it.
Max gingerly took the feather awed by its beauty. “Is this—”
“Yes,” said Tesnayr. “I need it to be taken to a place far away for safekeeping. No one must know of its existence.”
“May I ask why?”
Tesnayr shook his head. “It was entrusted to me momentarily, but now must be hidden until it is needed. But it won’t be needed by us.”
“Understood.” Max twirled the feather in his fingers admiring it. “I think I know just what to do with it. A place no one will think to look.”
