Luci was relieved that her assignment as Peter Turner’s guide was complete. It wasn’t that it wasn’t a pleasant assignment, but she felt guilty about taking advantage of him. She knew Peter thought he was in love with her and didn’t want to leave her, but she also knew that such feelings were natural for Earth-aliens who suddenly found themselves alone in a new environment. She was sure in time he’d get over her. Still, there was something unsettling about Peter Turner. He had gotten under her skin and she couldn’t keep thoughts of him out of her mind.
Their experience with Threebeard had upset her too. Could Peter really be the Liberator? She wondered about that and thought about how he had befriended Rhin just like the Prophecy had foretold and had already secured a position with Councillor Garcia, the ranking member of the Loyalist Party save the Chancellor himself.
Her mate’s reaction to the baby had disappointed her too. He didn’t seem at all happy about her pregnancy. She knew he was self centered and could be a skutz sometimes, but she thought her pregnancy would make him happy and give more meaning to their lives, but now she dared not even bring up the subject of the baby without spoiling Sola’s mood.
