Dekker's Dozen: A Waxing Arbolean Moon

After Shin had toyed with him a few rounds, Dekker abandoned what little training he possessed. Using his greater upper body strength, he crossed blades and whirled his bokken in a large arc, spinning the swords in several large, widening loops. At the peak of the widest loop, Dekker delivered a palm strike to the butt of the sword, popping it high into the sky. It fell neatly into Dekker’s free hand and the resourceful fighter pointed both blades at Shin, grinning.

Muramasa laughed. “He is a resourceful one, if nothing else.” He beckoned her to leave the room with him. “But Dekker is a sad man, lately. His story is like yours: he has lost much. Maybe you can cheer him up? Like you, I sense that he has a touch of destiny on his life and I think you two will get along… allow me introduce you,” Muramasa said.

      Now…

A fell breeze rattled the leaves of the Arbolean Council. They intuitively felt the summer of their plans rise to their apex. The time had come to set their long campaign back into motion.

      About the author:

Christopher D Schmitz is an author of fiction and nonfiction as well as a regular blogger. He lives with his wife and two children and lead insanely active lives.

Following the completion of his first fantasy novel in the early 2000s, he began to work on lots of short fiction in order to refine his skills and went on to publish many pieces from 1,000-15,000 words in a variety of genres and in a number of venues. Putting fiction away for a while, he pursued post-graduate work where he received a new appreciation for nonfiction, but returned to his love for fiction with a greater commitment than ever.

In addition to writing and working with at-risk youth he is known known to play guitar (he played and sang in a rock band for several years,) or be found playing his bagpipes in seemingly random places. His wife thinks he’s a prima-donna like that.
