He looked at Mikey with his own proper vision and saw Mikey's eyes, at last, were also open, and also wise. Joy flooded him. He hugged Jarji close to him in delight. Will put his arms about them both. All around them, the colonists, even the colonists, were staring at one another in stunned excitement; not understanding but absorbing, through the ancient marrow of their bones, the excitement of the feeling that, somehow, things had come out right.
Jef shouted to Jarji and Will, but they both shook their heads. Nothing could be heard in such a din. He shouted again for the pleasure of hearing his own words, if only inside his head—he could tell Jarji and Will later, when there would be time for all the talking that might ever need to be done.
"Now we're ready!" was what he had shouted at them. "Now, we're ready, at last!"
—And Mikey pressed lovingly and hard against the three of them.
