  You are valuable.

  You are necessary.

  You are important.

  You are appreciated.

  You are treasured.

  You are loved.

I don’t know much but I do know that no one, and I mean no one, deserves to suffer any kind of abuse at the hands of someone who claims to love them.

All forms of abuse are horrific and terrible, but patience, love, and understanding go a long way toward helping a survivor heal. I’m not an expert or an advocate, but I am someone who cares a lot about people … all people. So I’ll leave these numbers here, and if you know someone who could use them or if you can use them yourself, please do:

  National Child Abuse Hotline: 1-800-422-4453

  National Domestic Violence Hotline: 1-800-799-7233

National Sexual Assault Hotline: 1-800-656-HOPE (4673)

Also, I know you are going to ask about the next generation after this book … there are a lot of little kiddlets running around now, aren’t there? They’re all so cute! I’ll be honest and say I have some ideas, have been playing around with the possibility of a spin-off series based on the kiddos in the future very loosely, but I’m not there yet and I’m not sure when and if I ever will be. The idea of trying to write with no cultural references because we don’t know what that far in the future will look like is intimidating and slightly daunting. I want to do it right if I do it and I know I don’t have the time or the patience to tackle that kind of project anytime soon. I don’t have anything solid or concrete planned (at this exact moment in time). I’ve been in this world for eleven books over the course of five years, and as much as I loved every minute of it, I need a break. I love Denver, it’s my backyard, it’s my happy place, but there is a big, beautiful world out there that I want to explore through words, so I’m gonna do that first and foremost. If anything changes, my readers will be the first to know. In fact, you should sign up for my newsletter right now so you don’t miss a thing! It’s full of everything I’m currently working on and everything I have planned for the immediate future.

  ACKNOWLEDGMENTS

I’m going to keep this one simple.

If you have purchased, read, reviewed, promoted, pimped, blogged about, sold, talked about, preached about, or whined about any of my books … thank you.

If you have helped me make this dream of mine a reality … thank you.

If you have helped make my words better and helped me share them with the world … thank you.

If you have held my hand and helped me through the tough times when it feels like everyone and everything is against me … thank you.

If you help make the work part of writing the best job ever … thank you.

If you tolerate me being a horrible human and awful adult when I’m working … thank you.

I never thought I would have one book published and in reader’s hands; the fact I’ve written and published so many more than one blows my mind every single day. I never imagined this could be my life and I’m grateful every day that it is.

I also want to give my editor, Tessa Woodward, a shout-out … this was our first book together and she really understood how important it was to get this story right for Poppy and everyone who’s been rooting for her for so long. This wasn’t the easiest book to start with but we finished strong.

  About the Author

Jay Crownover is the New York Times and USA Today bestselling author of the Marked Men and Welcome to the Point series. Like her characters, she is a big fan of tattoos. She loves music and wishes she could be a rock star, but since she has no aptitude for singing or instrument playing, she’ll settle for writing stories with interesting characters that make the reader feel something. She lives in Colorado with her three dogs.
