Page 27 of Love Only Once

“I know. And I also know you said they were staying only for the day. Your family does take getting used to, especially those two.” He nodded toward the corner, and she watched Anthony and James having their heated discussion.

She grinned impishly. “They don’t mean half of what they say. And they won’t be here that often anyway. Why, Uncle James is sailing next week. He probably won’t be back more than once a year from now on.”

  “And Anthony?”

“Well, Uncle Tony will drop by from time to time to check on me, but you’ll get to like him, I promise you will. How can you not when you two have so much in common? Why, the reason I lost my heart to you so quickly was that you reminded me of Tony.”

  “Bloody hell,” he growled.

“Oh, don’t sulk,” she teased, wrapping her fingers in his. “That’s not the only reason I love you, you know. Shall I tell you some more reasons?”

“Can we escape for a while?” he asked eagerly.

“I think that can be arranged.”

  “Then come upstairs with me.”

“Nicholas! It’s the middle of the afternoon,” she hissed, shocked.

“I can’t wait any longer, love,” he whispered against her ear.

James caught sight of the couple racing out of the room, hand in hand, Reggie holding her other hand against her mouth to stifle her laughter. “Will you look at that?” he cut into Anthony’s speech. “Did I tell you he was the man for her?”

“You did not,” Anthony retorted hotly. “But of course I knew it all along.”
