wonderful chance to broaden her horizons. It was the first time that she had ever worked with people of any mental handicap. She volunteered three more times at Camp Jaycee until she graduated from Lynchburg College in 1996 with a Bachelor of Arts degree. Each time she went she looked at the world a little differently. She is currently working as the special events coordinator at the Alexandria Chamber of Commerce.
Christine Ichim's mother is still alive. In addition to the fund-raising project, Christine is in the process of writing a book. She also delivers motivational speeches to people of all ages.
Amanda Johnson is sixteen years old and a junior in high school in Placerville, California. This is her first published work but she has been writing poems and children's stories for years. Jason Leib is twenty years old and an upper junior at Yeshiva University. He was born and raised in the Chicagoland area. He is legally blind. Despite the vision problem, he played six years of Little League. He also attends the Special Olympics where he competed in several different sporting events and won gold, silver and bronze medals in the events he played in. Walter W. Meade started writing at the age of fourteen. His first story was published in Colliers magazine at the age of twenty-two. Kent Nerburn is an author, sculptor and educator who has been deeply involved in Native American issues and education. He has served as project director for two books of oral history entitled, To Walk the Red Road and We Choose to Remember. He has also edited three highly acclaimed books on Native American subjects. Kent won The Minnesota Book Award for his book, Neither Wolf nor Dog: On Forgotten Roads in 1995. The story "Like People First," appeared in Kent's book, Letters to My Son.
