Chapter Thirty-One

I learned to live for my family. They were important to me.

I didn’t want to break their hearts. I knew the great, terrible agony they would feel...

Eventually, after some time, a dim inner light started to break through the darkness inside me.

It started to shine a little. Just a little. But at least it did shine.

I even started to enjoy the simple things in life a little again. Just a little.

But, the darkness inside me never disappeared—it was always there, lurking.
