Holiness cont.
Reread Mark 9:43-48
Yesterday we read some pretty brutal verses that kind of tell something about how we should live our lives. It's pretty hard to live holy lives in this world we live in. But in these verses we read yesterday, Jesus was telling us how we go about making ourselves holy. Think about these verses and how they might relate to our spiritual lives.
Write down how you think the body parts listed in these verses might relate to a "spiritual body part".

Reread Mark 9:42
Let's go back to verse 42 and take a closer look at it. This is also a very scary verse. What do you suppose Jesus was trying to get across to His disciples in this verse?
What does this verse say is your responsibility to those who are weaker Christians or new Christians?
Even when we don't think anyone is watching, there is probably someone watching you.
This is where integrity comes into our lives. What does integrity mean to you?
“Authentic Christianity" talks about how Christianity has to be a m_________ of the h_____t.
In Verse 42, Jesus is once again letting us know that Christianity has to come from your heart, otherwise it's just like any other religion.
Jesus wanted to make those who are setting an example to others understand how much he hates the "sin" of leading someone away from God. When you are a leader in a group and you know that they follow every word you say, it is possible to lead people down the wrong path (i.e. away from God). Leading someone down the wrong spiritual path is a sin that is so huge in God's eyes that he wanted us to remember how wrong that is.
Back in Jesus' time, the Romans used to punish people by tying a huge weight around their neck and then throw them into the sea. Obviously the weight was so heavy that it would drag the person down to the bottom and there was no escape for the person. Jesus really wanted to make the point that when you have someone watching you and looks up to you be very careful that you are setting a godly example.
Friday
Read Mark 9:49 (yes, only one verse today)
There is a third responsibility that we have because we are followers of Jesus.
What do you think, "Everyone will be salted with fire" or "seasoned with fire" means?
Read Romans 12:1 - What does it mean to offer your bodies as "living sacrifices"?
Now read Acts 14:22 - What does Paul say in this verse that all believers must be ready to go through?
How does this relate to Mark 9:49?
Saturday
So What?????
How do these verses apply to our lives? Well . . . Let's see. . .
Your feet
Are there any places your feet take you that they shouldn't?
What are they?
Your Hands
Are there any habits that you do that make God sad?
What are they?
Your Eyes
Is there stuff that you look at that you shouldn't be looking at?
What are they?
Prayer and confession
How many times do you come before God and ask Him to clean up the messy rooms in your heart?
Remember the Holy Spirit doesn't like to share your heart with any dirt. What are the things that you are going to ask God for forgiveness?
To repent of a sin means more than just feeling bad about it and confessing it to God. What else does it mean to repent?
