  She smiled and waved, her stud earrings coming into view as her hair swished around.

  Felix gave her a fleeting smile back and opened the airplane.

  I heard about what you did. it was. . .awesome. I could never stand up to corey like that when he teases me. it seems like his insults pass right through you. i hope you’re okay, along with your brothers. i lit a candle every day and laid out in the pond outside my backyard, hoping you’d be well enough to see it someday. i hope we can maybe be friends?

  Felix looked up at her. She gave him a hopeful smile. Felix grinned back and nodded, pointing towards the note. His grin widened when he heard her elicit a small “yesssss!”, her warm hazel eyes beaming up at him.

  Felix read the ending to the note.

  Maybe you could sit with me at lunch. we’re not much, a few geeks and outcasts but it’s a family alright. thanks for inspiring me. . .
