  Chapter 5

  Callen opened his eyes. He saw a bright white light and felt strange like he didn’t belong to his body. He tried to focus. He was in a room. Nothing made sense. There was a woman in a uniform, a white uniform.

  “Where am I?” he asked in a shaky voice. The woman jumped, dropping her freshly poured tea. Her cup hit the concrete floor, smashing.

  “You’re not meant to be awake,” she blurted as she crossed the room in a panic. Callen watched as she went to a clear bag suspended next to him and twisted a lever.

  “Am I all right?” he asked. The woman didn’t look at him. She clicked the drip line with a snap of her fingers. Callen’s eyes grew heavy and then closed.
