Page 3 of Pond

arrived at home a few hours after dark after having walked with Jaco to his house. We said nothing. As I was about to leave he said see you Monday and bring the pellet.

I arrived home and my mother told me to go and have a bath we are eating in front of the TV. They did not seem to notice my arm at first… but when she walked past my room and saw me and my brother trying to get off my shirt. She knew something was wrong. First she inspected me, and then spanked me for being reckless and then I was dressed and bundled into the car so I could be taken to hospital. Everybody came along. The rest passed in a blur and late that night when we pulled up to our house again I was bandaged, injected and plastered.

My mother and father escorted me into the house and my little brother followed. We all sat down and the TV was turned on. The good, the bad and the ugly were showing, it was my favourite, but I was half asleep. My mother saw I was not going to make it long and said once we eat I can go to sleep. I snoozed while she heated up the food and as I opened my eyes tears started up again. My arm was not sore and I was happy, but just before Jaco showed me our escape route I really thought that we were going to die and that I would never have the satisfaction of the colonel again. Behold right before me it was, in all its glory, the original recipe. We ate KFC and I retold the falsehood of how I slept at Jaco’s house and how we picked up a scrap and then I came home and in the dark on my way back I fell and injured my shoulder.

The lie was bitter but the chicken was heavenly. I slept for hours and only awoke late on Sunday but it was fine as I was injured. I stayed in bed the whole day.

That Monday I was awoke by Jaco at my window; we spend the next few days at home while I recuperated but the next Thursday with my arm in a sling and the pellet on my back we went to the pond again.
