Chapter 11

  August 1974

Anger at Eduard Faron’s senseless murder had sent shockwaves through the group of friends that gathered the following Sunday evening at Rose’s.

‘It must have been an awful sight, Mayer. Tell us. What do you think happened?’

‘Poor old Faron, I wonder who could do that to such a sick old man?’

All eyes were on him, but Ari merely shook his head at their prurient questioning. He could not bring himself to rehearse the horror he had seen. Nobody stayed late and Ari was glad. He needed the comforting that only Rose could give him.
