when he looked at who it was, it was like his face dropped.
“Excuse me,” he said, “I have to take this call.” and he got up and walked to the other side of the restaurant floor, out of earshot.
When he came back he had that same concerned look that he'd had when we'd been in the gallery that day. He tried to play it down, but I could see under his veneer he was still torn by something.
“Why don't we take a look at more of the paintings here, it seems like such a waste if we don't, don't you think?” He asked, seemingly trying to distract himself as to what was on his mind.
I could only agree, and it was with some excitement that we walked over to the nearest painting, a beautiful sunrise done using vibrant colors. We stood in silence just taking it in, and I felt his shoulder brushing up slightly against mine and I felt a shiver run up me.
“I'd love to show you some of the pieces I have in my apartment Jenna, I think you'll really appreciate them.” He said, turning toward me and his eyes shining into my own.
How could I refuse? On the one hand, something may happen – which I had to admit – I wanted it to. And I also wanted to spend more time with him. There was something intriguing about him. Something I couldn't quite put my finger on, a tension almost, like he was struggling within himself. I wanted to find out more about him, and if I didn't that night do so, it might be sometime until I'd be actually able to.
I nudged his arm with my elbow,
“You're the boss.”
“Oh come on, it's not like that.”
“Maybe I like it like that.” I teased.
Brody gave me a slightly mischievous look, and held his arm out for me to link into,
“Come with me, I'll take you to the moon.” He exaggerated.
“I didn't know your apartment was that far.” I quipped.
He squeezed his and my arm closer to his side, and lead me to the elevator, looking at me with a twinkle in his eye...
