Page 3 of Holy Innocence

  bedecking the dining table.

  He glared at the rare beauty

  a bundle of nubile silk before him,

  the fruits denied to him by his vocation.

  The firm young breasts were perky

  the apples of Eden

  Ripe and swollen with sweetness;

  She offered the apples to him.

  In his soft hands took them, cupped them;

  She probed him to eat

  And he devoured the apples.

  Though he played dumb

  Long after the satiation

  He could still hear the voice

  “The woman gave the fruit to me and I ate it...”

  Seduced

  “Of course you’ll not die

  you’ll become as wise as God.”

  He had told her she won’t be a sinner

  She’d be a winner, Victoria

  She saw herself topping celebrity lists

  Her dream since her young days;

  She saw it an adventure worthy, though dicey

  The thought of how wonderful it seemed

  And then the cruise started

  The exploration of the southern land

  The forbidden land—

  She was seduced!

  Ma’Beth

  When the going is tough

  And the road ahead rough

  She keeps alive my faith;

  This lovely Elizabeth

  Talks to me in language so plain

  From afar eases the pain

  Of this long distance;

  Every word she says

  the tone of her voice

  the laughter, the mood

  must admit I love it

  Make fun of the distance

  Feel lucky of her existence

  I shall forever wait for her.

  I dunno yet,

  But I feel it, I can see it

  The great sign of joy

  In the history of one man

  This Elizabeth, lovely ‘Beth

  Maybe she gonna bring back

  The love I once had

  That’s tragically taken

  And left me forlorn

  Damn him, Malach HaMavet.

  Bed of Roses

  Dane’s away breadwinning

  Toiling and moiling away

  I am young, just married

  But loving and caring

  You see the wife I am

  The mother inside me;

  Hold me, hold me in your arms

  This is no bed of roses

  Don’t show me, the dark side of love;

  There must be something wrong

  Every night I stay awake long

  Not as happy as I seem to be,

  Love is slipping away

  I am alone every day.

  I take long showers

  To wash away the memories

  Life’s a struggle, that I’m aware

  But Dane leaving me it’s not fair

  Months not coming home, out there

  Like there’s no one he’s left behind

  Turning his back

  On a wife who loves him.

  How many days

  and how many nights

  in fright;

  Hold me

  Hold me in your arms

  This is no bed of roses

  Don’t show me the dark side of love!

  The Assassin

  You’re my greatest obsession

  Yet source of my oppression

  O thou my soul assassin.

  Was it a crime?

  When we used to rhyme

  all the time!

  Was it a mistake?

  That I had to take

  the un-given cake!

  I look at the sky

  can’t help but cry

  I watch your love fly!

  O thou mortal sin

  No longer seen

  Always missed

  You just killed me

  Slashed cords that

  Connected me to life

  When you left!

  Star Love

  Daily life is harsh

  frailly I want to hush

  Cross the stream

  and live my dream.

  Look at me n’ I’ll smile at you

  Sweet words she said to me

  the things I did and looked at her

  the mirror I saw myself in.

  I want to watch her

  Devour the sight of my eyes

  yet she’s vague, ethereal

  keeping the distance;

  O my star

  A million years away

  my addiction

  Glittering illusion

  I imagine more than is there

  come a million years closer

  My star!!!

  I Don’t Care

  I don’t care, you choose wine over tea

  I don’t care, you’re a believer or atheist

  I don’t care, you’re a wolf trapped in sheep’s body

  I don’t care, you prefer corny playa lines over bible trivia

  I don’t care, you’re a democrat or republican

  I don’t care, you’re a terrorist or freedom fighter

  I don’t care, you’re western, oriental or African

  I don’t care

  Really don’t care

  You’re the devil I know

  Not the angel I don’t

  As long as you love me!

  I Had To

  I can see your heart and I know your sorrow

  I can see you’re going through a hard time

  It’s hard to be that way, and I’m feeling sorry

  But I know it’ll come to you.

  I can see through you and I know the story

  I can see what you’re going through,

  It’s bad of me, and I’m feeling sorry

  But I know it’ll come to you.

  I can hear your cry and I know you’re hurt

  I see what you’re going through, believe me

  I’m sorry, though life seems empty with no tomorrow

  But I know it’ll come to you.

  I can wipe your tears, but I won’t

  I see what you’re going through

  I can’t do much, forget your sorrow

  But I know it’ll come to you.

  When I’m this away, I sure won’t come back

  Thence your heart should be ready to go on

  There’s nothing I can do, I can say

  You just have to face this, I had to leave.

  The Goddess

  She fills my emptiness

  Source of my happiness

  the look in her eyes

  everything emanating from her face

  sends me reeling;

  I try to piece the mystery behind her gaze

  charming with innocence

  yet peeking with flirtatious looks

  an intriguing complexity of my obsession;

  My lovely goddess

  Elusive mystery

  My Queen she-devil

  Irresistible lure

  I’m drowning in her ocean

  My addiction

  She’s a bundle of sweet contradiction

  My goddess!

  Kissed

  Under the million eyes above

  Glittering fires from the midnight blue

  whence his blaze consumed me,

  with closed eyes smelt his fragrance

  and devoured the pouty fruits

  Evoked a response I’d never known, nor imagined

  Giddying of all my senses, instinctive joy.

  Warning sirens vowed silence,

  Reason took leave

  something new and irresistible,

  tenderly overpowering

  Weary from the tumult of the body

  and all my soul was scent and melody!

In Your Arms

  Reach for me and in your arms I fall

  Ride with me and I drift with the current

  Floating out to your sea;

  Hold me in your arms and I know no further

  Without anchor or direction disappear from sight

  Just the two of us tonight;

  Invite me into your heart and I submerge

  Hold me in your arms and I lose all restraint

  I give in to the drifting sensation, enjoy the moment.

  Night Cry

  Hot days follow one another

  With no end in sight

  Like summer is forever,

  And when comes the night

  All is parched and dry;

  Night air thick and oppressive,

  Suddenly gusts of wind arrive;

  When I think of us then

  Exciting yet frightening

  I know when I feel this way;

  Flashes of lightning amid dark sky

  There’s no time to react, can’t help

  The rain comes, with it the release

  I cry quarts the whole night.

  Replaceable

  Too late, too late

  Everything I do babe;

  In my life it’s you

  Yes, if you love me,

  Please, come wit’ me

  It’s your name in my heart

  You coming to my dreams

  Telling me how I’m such a charm

  You got me to love.

  You must come wit’ me

  You must come wit’ me (babe)

  It’s too late to leave wit’out you

  You got to love

  From the day I saw you

  Don’t you ever for a second get to thinking

  You’re replaceable.

  Too late, too late

  to our merging you’re lating (babe)

  Lemme call you a cab

  I’m standing in the front yard

  Waiting for you, babe

  Please don’t be late.

  You must come wit’ me

  You must come wit’ me (babe)

  It’s too late to live wit’out you

  You got to love

  From the day I saw you

  Don’t you ever for a second get to thinking

  You’re replaceable (babe).

  Just in Case

  Just in case

  today I wake up

  and I don’t

  Say I love you;

  Just in case

  today I walk up

  to you, and

  I don’t kiss you;

  Just in case

  today I look up

  to you, and

  I don’t give you the look;

  Just in case

  a day comes

  And I don’t

  Do what I usually do;

  Fear not

  I’ve just learnt

  A million ways

  to say I love you

  to show I love you

  and guess what

  … Surprise, babe!

  Ritualistic Love

  From generation

  To Gene-ration

  and degeneration

  learning the same thing

  Over and over

  what pre-historians did

  and taught us to do

  Rituals we never know

  nor question

  doesn’t make sense;

  When love comes knocking

  and you fall head over heels

  Head for the hills

  Smile,

  Laugh,

  Hug,

  Kiss,

  Flower a day,

  Valentine’s a MUST,

  A text,

  An E-mail,

  A card,

  A day

  To keep the covetous

  Friend away

  Keep love safe;

  Cloying bouquets

  That withers immediately

  The delivery boy leaves

  And dumped

  To generate manure

  Sexy this

  Sexy that

  Lingerie,

  Negligee,

  For him,

  For her,

  Just to say

  Not to sway

  That you love.

  O thee men

  and women

  we men

  Do ‘luv-ya’

  and yeah…

  Hate the ritual

  or re-show

  that you shawl

  Deep inside us

  beneath the machismo

  is great love

  is gRate laugh.

  Broken Cupid’s Arrow

  So many times has cupid hit

  Hearts of men poisoned by love,

  Many a time has the dark heart of man

  Been illuminated by radiance dazzling the eyes

  Dawning the day when thaws the ice

  That had long frozen the heart.

  For many days long gone and not forgotten

  That followed each other in quick succession

  Cupid sped far and wide hunting for the lover,

  Sun and moon coursed along his paths

  Wind and rain attacked him unvariedly

  Only to get the grazing hearts oblivious.

  Hearts with their serene breath:

  Liz with a broken heart, and hurt

  Leo with his lost love, untimely demise

  Hearts with staggering faiths on Facebook;

  Cupid with his bow and poisoned arrows

  Shot them to lay at their feet each poisoned heart.

  Thence dawned the day of their date

  The two to meet, miraculous omens to relate

  Leo of Nepal said to have flown

  The long and bumpy flight to Kenya,

  Whatever in his mind who can doubt

  The candle of hope was brightly lit

  Prodigious love was soon to be begotten.

  The sacred fire may have gone out

  Cupid’s poison may have been dilute

  Flames of love and infernal furnace of desire

  Were shortly to find a cold ground, cold heart

  Attraction was lend asunder, dreams of love dropped

  And the bright candle where hope burned

  Was blown out and turned dreary flicker.

  The air rang with the call of Christian love

  Liz beamed fresh and lovely like a garden of roses

  Her words clothed the aura in raiment of darkness

  And romance put on a priestly garb of brethren

  When she stupefied Leo, the still mourning lover

  Understood the candid Liz in full glum and gloom—

  This Liz of his dreams was to be his sister-in-Christ.

  The dejected heart of Leone

  Wherein love for Elizabeth lie

  Desire for her beauty and bloom

  Like dust under his feet lay gloom

  Unlettered though, eloquent he spake

  ‘So be it, sis!’

  Days and months have followed

  My heart so hollowed

  Desires the one hallowed

  Yet not allowed

  May God perpetuate His choicest blessings on her heart!

  (For Liz, 14th March, 2012).

  Beautiful Stranger

  She is here—beautiful stranger

  where has she come from?

  I dunno—no one knows

  what does she want?

  She wants to share a room in my heart.

  A beautiful stranger has come

  to share a room in my heart

  Can I accommodate her?

  Would I?

  I don’t know that,

  But this,

  That I am suffering

  From the first vision

  That set my body on fire
>
  When I first saw her.

  U Gonna Need Me

  So many times you had me,

  So many times you hurt me.

  So many times my heart you held,

  So many times you hurt the heart.

  So many times you substituted me

  So many times I forgave you

  So many chances you had

  So many times I held onto you

  Now you’ve decided to go away

  Now you love it far, far from my arms

  Yet I’ve not replaced you

  Not that you’re irreplaceable

  You think without me you’d be fine

  Here with me you had a home

  Don’t come back with tears in your eyes

  My love won’t stay in wait

  But you gonna need me.

  Juliet:

  ‘Tis but thy name that is

  My enemy;

  Thou art thyself, though

  Not a Montague.

  What’s Montague? It is

  Nor hand, nor foot,

  Nor arm, nor face, nor

  Any other part

  Belonging to a man. O, be

  Some other name!

  What’s in a name? that

  Which we call a rose

  By any other name would

  Smell as sweet;

  So Romeo would, were

  He not Romeo call’d,

  Retain that tittle. Romeo,

  Doff thy name,

  And for that name which

  Is no part of thee

  Take all myself.

  William Shakespeare

  Romeo & Juliet.

  Elove:

  ‘Tis but thy resolve that is

  In between;

  Thee and I, my fire

  My one desire.

  What’s resolve? It is

  Nor end, nor fiend

  Nor devil, nor angel, nor

  Any other thing

  Denying us forever. O, be

  Some other love!

  What’s love? That

  Which we call unrequited

  Or platonic would

  Be as romantic;

  So love would, were

  She not philia call’d

  Retain that title. Love

  Is my life

  And for that love which

  Is not part of thee

  Grant thee happy days.

  Happy Birthday Liz

  (Special dedication; 16th February, 2013)

  Happy may you be

  All this day

  Play the music of the sun

  Pray to the gods of fun

  Yell at the top of your sweet voice.

  Be home early, dearie

  In the evening for the party

  Ride in the moment

  To celebrate, and sing

  Happy Birthday!

  Don’t blow (as you blow the candles)

  All air out of your lungs

  You need it next year.

  Love

  In you

  Zest for life.
