high.

We’ll get so high we can’t see the fence,

And forget the fall back down to this mess.

  Poem of Today Nov.15 2002

  It must be mocking me

  day after day from
morning till night,

  pounding on my window.

  Last night I was deceived
into believing

  I would
wash away in a river so
swollen

  even tree tops
would have to fight
for air.

  It rolls in taunting me
with the image of

  my
inside eye. It sits outside my
window

  to wait
or just to stare.
Not far away,

  shadows
toss gently in the wind.

  And I start to wonder
at such ambiguities.

  It has been haunting me,

  this Winter Danish weather.

  Shhhh

There’s a shadow on the Earth

  shhhhh
I think it is the Sun

casting this dark space on my home.

I can see the end of it
in Spain and Japan

  and
in the middle of the ocean

the fish can swim in and out as they please.

  I can’t walk so far,
I can’t take the car
,

so what can I do to get out?

What can I do to escape
this blanket on my life?

  I can’t move the Sun,
I can’t move the Earth.

  Get me out of here!

Come and pick me up in
a spaceship

  and we’ll
escape the sun’s curse.

  I can ride with you
out of this place

  and
into the light where I
belong.

  Come pick me up
I’ll go along with you

into the light to live a long life,
together you and I.

Come pick me up; let’s ride high.

  Oh there’s a shadow
thrown on my life.

  Beam me up and
let’s fly away from Earth

  and start a new life
away from here.

  Come pick me up in
a spaceship and we’ll escape,

  we’ll escape...
I think it’s the Sun.
Shhhh.

  Space Girl

  And the world was all
Technology:

  Fancy girls and fancy drugs.

In global circulation people were taught
HARMONOLOGY.

And she landed in from Outer Space,

yah she landed in from Outer Space.

Yah, she landed in what used to be a tall,
green
Rainforest,

(now kids, that’s where your tall
green coffees used to come from)

But it’s not a Rainforest anymore.

  Oh no!
It’s been Oxidized and Globalized,

  and now
it’s called
SILICON VALLEY.

And Space Girl took a look around the valley

  and what did she see?

Well, she saw billions and billions and
billions of faces,

from millions and millions and millions of
places.

But hey! They all kinda looked the same!

They all looked kinda old and thin,
and worn with wrinkles.

  The people of Earth:

  drones for green-eyed
monsters!

Damn, the world was all about
Slavery:

  fancy chains and fancy cuffs.

All over the earth people were dying for
The GLOBAL ECONOMY

And she landed in from Outer Space,

yah she landed in from Outer Space.

Yah she landed in what used to be a
prospering, peaceful society.

(Now kids, that’s not just a place in an
absence of war.)

But it’s not a prospering, peaceful society any
more,

  oh no!
It’s been Modernized and Democratized.

  And now it’s called
“heavy” and “ugly,”

  “too much for me” and
“scary.”

And she landed in from Outer Space.

She landed in from Outer Space.

Yah she landed into what used to be the cave
of a dinosaur;

  the cave of Neanderthal;

  what used to be the
cave of Pitupu; the cave of little baby Jesus;

  a swamp of DNA; a witchdoctor hospital;

  what used to be a tourist attraction;
a high security operation;

what used to be the target of what used to be
an apocalypse.

But it’s not a cave or even a pile of rubble
anymore.

  It’s been Oxidized and Globalized,

and now its called a meteor blowing

  Space
Girl’s OTHER Vacation Destination

  into bloody bloody bits.
Into bloody bloody bits.

  The Rosebush

My mother used to have a rose bush

growing in the front yard corner,

  underneath the window

  of the small room downstairs.

I don’t know who gave it to her.

I seem to remember her saying

it was my dad who gave it
a long time ago,

  before they were married.

It never really had many flowers.

Buttercups would grow all around it.

I liked those buttercups; my sister used
to

turn my chin yellow with their magic petals.

  Sometime along the way,

  something happened to that rosebush

  that never bloomed quite like
the neighbors’.

  And now it’s gone.
At least I believe it’s gone.

I would have to look out the window
to be sure.

  The buttercups are gone, but
they might come back.

  Through the Clouds

  Through the clouds
sunshine is just
as lovely.

  Through the curtains
breezes are just
as breezy.

  Satellites and seagulls
search in the sky

  and perch and chirp
the afternoon away.

I don’t want to get high.

  I don’t want clouded vision,
twisted and demented perception.

  Everything that’s presented to me
will be forgotten the next day.

  I don’t want more drugs,
I just want to get away.

I want to open up my belly
and pour everything out:

  my stomach and my liver
and all my guts;

spill it onto an audience of penguins.

  Through the clouds
sunshine is just
as lovely.

Through the curtains breezes are just
as breezy.

  Satellites and seagulls
searchin’ the sky

  perch perch and chirp chirp
the afternoon away.

  The wind is curly
and the sunshine it prickles,

and I’m craving something, but it’s
not for my body.

It’s for my mind. It’s for my eyeballs.

  I crave it
but I spit at it.

  I don’t want more drugs.

I don’t want more drugs today.

  I don’t want more drugs,
I just want to get away

  2003 Wait for Sun

I’m just waiting for the right time

  to come
out into the spotlight.

It should be a warm sunny day.

  I’ll stay in until then.

  I’ll wait for
the sun to come out

  and then I will follow
in it’s footsteps

  to eternity-or close as well.

Moon can’t take me where I’m headed.

To much reflection blinds my eyes.

I’ll just wait until the sun comes out

  to shine
a spot onto my life.

Dark Moon won’t lead me to where I’m going.

Eyes wide open I can see all the tricks.

I’ll just wait for the sun to take me where I’m
going.

Sweat it out. Have some fun. Chill out
till then.

  Just sit and wait while
making the big plans,

  changing approaches,??
?trying out
speeches

  in front of the mirror.
No light in here.

  Moon can’t take me where I want to go;

  Too
much reflection
makes a distortion,

  leads to rejection.

I’ll wait for Sun to light the way.

Melt the fears and start my Day.

  Wealthy Dee

Wealthy Dee don’t need no grace.

  Pearly-toothed smile,

  she ain’t nobody’s wife.

  Cooking in the kitchen
for

  whoever be home,

Wealthy Dee is gold to the bone.

She’s smilin’ away to the men gone walkin by,

she’ll rise up in the mornin’

  bake them men a pie.

  Wealthy Dee she ain’t pretty,

  but god almighty

  she
sho’ is a lady.

  My heart is breaking
all over again

  Just from one kiss

  that didn’t mean no thing.

  I was so lonely
what could I do?

  But I ain’t in love

  with old you know who.

That Wealthy Dee, she don’t need no grace

  Pearly-toothed smile,

  she ain’t nobody’s wife.
