Page 4 of The Honey Elephant

“I have found it! I have found the lake the moon bathes in!” Reginald, Prince of Baboons shouted excitedly. “Quick Carmel, pass me that large net. We can capture it and take it home. I'll reach out and grab hold of it first...”

“Oh but Reggie,” moaned Carmel-the-Camel, “that moon will never fit on the wall, can't you find a smaller one?” However, before Carmel-the-Camel could say anything else, there was a big

  SPLASH!

“Carmel!” Reginald shouted in a gargling sort of way, “It moved, the moon moved. Throw a rope and pull me out!”

The next morning the sun rose, only to find the moon was still up. For a moment they stared at each-other...then the sun winked and whispered, “Eclipse!” The moon glowed and beamed back. “After you,” smiled the sun.

The mud-brick fish, sensing the sun was distracted, broke free from the mud-brick and made its way to the oasis only to find it had been turned into a member’s only health spa...

And in a dark cave with honeycomb covered walls, Sister Dor and the Sisters of the Sacred Brethren sat in the gloom...

“Are you sure this is the right cave?” asked one of the sisters.

“Quite sure,” said Sister Dor. “It is written in our sacred book.” She pulled out some snail-ants and waited for their glow to illuminate the cave.

“What's that, there?” asked a sister, “There, hanging from the wall.”

“Doesn't look like what I imagined the honey elephant would look like...” Sister Dor said before adding, “Oh! No-one move. Shh... Be very quiet.”

  “What is it?”

“Shh...” Said Sister Dor again, “Move out of the cave very slowly... I think the honey elephant has stored its honey in the cave of the Giant Moth of Myth... Hopefully the moth is in deep hibernation...”

A gentle humming-buzz passed near the edge of the clearing. For a moment the honey elephant paused and listened to the gentle rustling of the leaves. It smiled and swayed its' trunk back and forth in time with the natural ebb and flow of the Lost Forest then moved on untroubled and unnoticed...a rare and special thing, content to be the subject of unwritten history...
