CHAPTER THIRTEEN

  “You seem nervous.”

“A little,” Mia answered toying with the three-tiered diamond pendant hanging from her neck, a birthday gift from her parents. “It’s been a while since I interviewed for a job.”

Following the phone call from Brittany last night, Mia called Tinley on her way home from the Latte Lounge to inform her that she had a job interview tomorrow afternoon. Tinley and Mia quickly set up a morning meeting for the two of them to go over last minute details before Mia headed out to Parker Physical Therapy & Pilates for the interview.

“You did not seem nervous when you interviewed with me.”

“That’s because I was interviewing for a writing position not a personal assistant position. I do not know anything about being a personal assistant.”

“Of course you do.” Tinley waved her off. “When you first started working here you were a writing assistant. Trust me, there is not much difference.”

  “I guess you are right.”

“Of course I am. Anyway did you have a chance to go over the resume?”

Mia nodded. “I did. I rarely got any sleep because I was making sure I had everything down pat for the interview.”

“You are going to be fine. By the way, good job on the outfit selection, and your hair.” Tinley was impressed. Mia’s charcoal power suit was chic and sexy. The pencil skirt flirted at the knee, the cherry colored blouse and stilettos accented Mia’s toffee colored complexion, adding to her sexy sophisticated look. Mia decided she would chalk it up and straighten her hair to give herself a more polished conservative look rather than the Bohemian glam look she sported every day.

“I was channeling my inner Nicole Anderson.” Mia admitted eyes flitting down to her ensemble.

“Job well done. Just know they are going to hire you.”

  “You really think so?”

  “Trust me, I know so.”

“Okay.” Mia let out a deep breath. “I need CliffsNotes on Kane Parker.” Mia gripped the pen in her hand.

“No, you don’t. Mia, we went over this. You’re fine and thinking too much.”

Tinley had already briefed her on Kane Parker. By Tinley’s delivery, Mia knew that she’d still felt something for him although she tried to pretend she didn’t. Mia knew it was obvious when Tinley referred to Kane as being sweet, honest, open, generous and thoughtful, and when Mia gave her a questioning glance Tinley’s cold demeanor resurfaced. Mia knew he was the youngest of three children, graduated at the top of his class from Ohio State with a BA in business management and received a MS in sports medicine. His favorite color was gray and when he was not seeing patients his interests consisted of playing basketball, shooting pool, or working out at the gym. When Mia learned that liars were his pet peeve, she felt an uneasiness overcome her.

“He is really going to dislike me once he finds out what I have done.”

“Who cares?” Tinley shrugged. “He is getting what he deserves and after it is over, it is not like the two of you will ever see one another again.”

“True.” Mia nibbled the cap of her pen. A part of her felt a bit disappointed but she did not know why.

“You better get out of here, I don’t want you to be late.”

Mia quickly scanned the clock on Tinley’s wall. 11:15 stared back at her. Tinley was right she better get a move on.
