Chapter 2.
The young male had quickly grown accustomed to her presence. They had remained side by side almost continuously since the day they met. From their first union until this moment they had shared a closeness unique to them alone. The communal lifestyle they had grown up in was now a thing of the past.
Their communication, though non-verbal, was more significant than anything they had ever experienced “before.” From the beginning it had been a struggle to make themselves understood. Simple ideas were almost impossible to convey. He felt frustrated, being unable to make her understand. He knew from her mannerisms, from her body language, that she too had these feelings.
He remembered the night it happened. As had always been the case with their race, sexual union was performed with the female facing away from the male. Initially that had been the case with them too. But as the days and months went by, their unions had become less driven, less intense, more emotional. Instead of hurrying to climax, the young male had taken more time, deriving more pleasure from the act. His mate had become more responsive as a result.
The two spent long minutes caressing, holding each other, with him snuggling close against her back. As he relaxed his embrace, she turned toward him, gazing into his eyes. He adjusted accordingly until they were fully facing each other. Their eyes met as their bodies once again joined. In that instant their relationship changed, and each of them recognized it. Though neither of them knew it at the time, This was the moment when she conceived.
