pizza box and suddenly the small room fills with the big, sweet smell.

  Tori’s brown eyes bulge as she inches closer.

  “I was so jonesing for something sweet,” she gushes, suddenly breathy and throaty and sitting down across from me with big eyes all round and dewy. “Was this… is this… for me?”

  “For us,” I sigh, opening a cold winter’s harvest ale and sliding it over.

  “That’s it,” she gushes, raising her beer for a toast. “This is, officially, suddenly, the best Valentine’s Day ever.”

  “You think?” I ask after meeting her toast.

  “Well,” she sighs, sliding out a slice of holiday pizza. “So far, I mean.”

  “The only thing that would make it better,” I chuckle. “Is… a Valentine’s slumber party?”

  “Dude. Why do you think I’m in my PJs?!?”
