Chapter Seventeen

  1

Trevor was sitting in his living room. He was trying to relax on the couch. He had too many things on his mind. It seemed nobody’s life would ever be the same.

Even though things around the world had slowed down, every country was still trying to rebuild. The town of Anderson wouldn’t be the same anymore. Trevor’s personal life was all over the place.

Things with Terry were getting confusing. She had always been a friend, but a thought kept crossing his mind. Could she be more than a find?

He decided to clean up the house. He would try anything to get crap off his mind. There wasn’t much he could do around the house. He had sold his television to get some things that he needed.

He had gotten out an old stereo that he had put up. There weren’t many radio stations with good signals. There was a lot of static. He did find an A.M. station talk show.

The radio panel was discussing everything that had happened around the world. They all had their opinions on what caused the world wide event and what it could possibly mean.

Trevor turned off the radio. He had no need to hear anymore. It was making him do more thinking. There was no need for him to hear their opinions, because he already had his own.

He stood in front of the stereo wondering what to do next. He really wasn’t in the mood to clean his house. Then someone started knocking on the door.

At first Trevor just stood there. He didn’t need any strange visitors. Why didn’t anyone he knew stop by?

He walked over to the window and looked out. It was an older man standing on the porch. He had gone ahead and opened the door.

The man had a construction worker appearance. He had short grey hair with a trimmed beard to match. He was wearing a faded shirt and dirty jeans.

  “Hello?” Trevor said.

“There’s going to be a meeting,” the man said.

“What?” Trevor replied. “Who are you?”

“They’re not telling everyone,” the man said. He looked over his shoulder then back at Trevor. “Go to the meeting.”

“Who are you?” Trevor repeated. “What meeting?”

The man turned and walked away. He didn’t look back. He walked down the block and out of sight.

Trevor shut the door. “I need to stop answering the door.”

Robert was sitting on the porch when a car came up the drive. Angie was somewhere inside of the house. He wasn’t for sure what he should be ready for. The dark robed man’s voice told him that it would be alright.

It didn’t take long to see that there were three women in the car. He had a feeling that he should have known that they were coming.

The car stopped right in front of the house. It had Nevada license plates on it. Robert didn’t know anyone from Nevada.

The black robed man’s voice came into his head. He told Robert that they were there to please the people. To help others commit adultery.

The women got out of the car and walked up to the porch. It was an old woman and two younger women. The old woman just stared at Robert.

“I can’t believe it,” she said. “I really found you somehow.”

“Why are you looking for me?” Robert asked.

Robert thought that it was nice to have some new women in town. The two younger ones he thought looked good. They didn’t dress like the women of Anderson.

“I’ve come to help,” she said. She grabbed the girls by the arms. “I’m Bella, these are my girls.”

Trevor walked in Terry’s house a little past eight in the evening. She had invited him over for dinner. He figured he might as well since he had nothing else to do.

He could see how things go for them. It had been a while since he had been with a woman. He thought there was a chance that he could get lucky.

They had sat at the table and ate. They both were quiet. Terry acted like she had something on her mind.

  “It’s good,” Trevor said.

It had caught Terry of guard. She knew that he was just saying it to be nice. He was trying to break the uncomfortable silence.

  “Thank you,” she said.

“Something on your mind?” Trevor asked. “You’re quiet tonight.”

“No, well,” Terry started. “I hate being in this house alone. I need a roommate.”

“Really?” Trevor said. He was surprised. “I thought that you were doing okay.”

“The house is too quiet,” she said. She really missed her grandma. “Why don’t you move in? I got a spare room and you wouldn’t have to pay rent. Ashley can even come over.”

“I don’t know,” he replied. He was shocked. “I’ll have to think about it.”

“Please,” Terry begged. She looked like she was about to cry. “I’m terrified to stay here at nights.”

  “What? Why?” Trevor asked.

Terry had broken down into tears. They sat down at the table for thirty minutes, but didn’t finish their meal. She had told him about Robert raping her.

When Terry was finished, Trevor didn’t know what to say. He wanted to go find Robert and beat him half to death. His mind was going a hundred miles an hour.

She told him that she would be fine. “You got to promise not to tell anyone.”

“You should have reported it,” Trevor said.

“I was too embarrassed,” Terry said. “Please, don’t tell anyone.

  “Okay, I promise,” Trevor said.

Things had gone quiet again. They both didn’t know what to say to the other. Terry was afraid that Trevor would never talk to her again.

Trevor didn’t leave her alone. He still didn’t know if he would actually move in or not. This changed a few things. He had spent the night on her couch while she fell asleep in her grandma’s chair.
