Cal and Pearl fell into each other’s arms, laughing.

“Do you have any idea what you’re getting yourself into, Mr. McCabe?” she asked.

“Not at all, Mrs. McCabe. But I know one thing.” He shook his head in admiration. “You’ve begun to thrive on all this excitement.”

She thought a moment, then nodded. “I think you’re right.”

“You are definitely your father’s daughter,” he murmured against her temple.

She pulled back and met his eyes. “I consider that the highest of compliments.”

He bowed his head in acknowledgment. “And I know one thing more. That prim and proper life of yours will never be dull again, Mrs. McCabe.”

  “Promise?”

His smile remained. But his voice deepened with passion. “I do promise. With all my heart.”

Oh, Daddy, she thought as she accepted Cal’s arm and started toward the preacher. You knew all along, didn’t you? It was part of your plan to have me come here and find, not only this wonderful cowboy, but myself. Thank you, Daddy. I hope I’ve made you proud. Because you’ve made me the happiest woman in the world.
