Page 2 of Cure Overdose

  “Why?” he pleaded.

Now Belcher looked up at him.

“What do you mean why? The tracker program hasn’t been getting results ever since it started and the numbers of drug addicts is starting to get out of control. Come on Tayt, how many of your own bounties have you put into re-hab only to have them shooting up again the next day?”

“And that’s a good enough reason to kill for?”

“You don’t get it. This comes from the top. This stuff is going to be government policy soon. I either do as I’m told or I end up like you are about to be, full of A2 and then given the best high you will ever have.”

Tayt struggled again as Belcher produced a needle from under his own envirocoat.

“You bastard!” Tayt screamed as the needle pushed through the skin in his neck near where the other had already done.

Suddenly his arms were free, but his legs would not hold him and he toppled to the ground face first onto the greasy street. The last words he heard were Belcher’s.

“Ok Jones lets go. You know when this becomes legal there’s not going to be a day goes by when we don’t call in another cure overdose.”
