Page 28 of Epic Testament

We ran dodging the big meteors of fire as they crash landed all around us taking many of the town people’s lives in their destruction. My father and his colleagues led us to The Persian Gulf.

“How will we cross we don’t have any boats?” My question was drowned in the chaos and loud pounding noises.

I followed them because if there was anything I learned so far it was to trust my dad and God. When my dad made it to the mouth of the Sea, he raised his arms and the waters parted. Just like the Red Sea in the Bible. It was such an amazing sight. The water stood like walls hundreds of feet tall towering over us like we were mere ants in a field.

We ran across because we didn’t have much time as the destruction neared. While I was running, I heard someone call my name. The voice faintly travelled across the sound waves. I turned to see the source.

  It was Hesna.

He stood at the mouth of The Gulf. I remembered what he said about his plans to destroy everything. I had to stop him. I knew with my angel’s help it would be possible. I turned and ran for him. I was more determined to end this than I have been to do anything in my entire life. Then, I heard another voice yelling from behind me.

  It was my Dad.

“Dad! It’s Hesna! We have to kill him! We can’t let him get away!”

If we don’t, he will kill you. He will kill us all.

“No, Missy! We have to go! There isn’t enough time! The waters will crush us!”

Despite my desire to end this, I knew I had to turn around. I ran toward my father. When I reached him, I could hear loud pounds of water crashing down with a force so strong it shook the ground. I turned around the walls were falling. I heard the sound getting closer and closer. Even with the enhanced speed, we would not make it.

“Dad, we are not going to make it.” As he held my hand, I turned to look at him.

  “We have to try.”

I had to trust him. It was just me and him. At least, we would be together. Then, my Dad grabbed me and spun me around in the air before releasing me like an athlete releases a discus. He didn’t even give me time to refuse. I’m not sure if I was released facing him or if I turned by body in attempt to grab him and stay. I reached with my right hand desperately trying to grab his hand. All that remained was his fingertips. I pulled for him. Maybe if I pulled hard enough, willed hard enough I could defy the forces propelling me in the opposite direction. I couldn’t leave him. I had to try for Phillip, for myself, for my mom.

It was almost as if her hand extended from mine; like she left me to comfort him. I looked into his eyes and the reflection I saw wasn’t of me, but my mother. He was thinking of her. The seconds stretched and time stood still. God had given us a moment to love.

“I love you” he told me.

This couldn’t be the end. There was too much more to do. We have to get Hesna together.

“No! Dad! No!” The walls crashed down on his defenseless body.

“I love you, too.” I yelled hoping my voice would cut through the crashing waves and land inside his heart.

I landed on the ground and looked back at the water as it violently shook back to position. My dad had given his life for me.

  He saved me.

I buried my head in my hands as I cried for him. I cried because it was my fault. If I hadn’t turned back, he would still be alive.

Then, I saw something in the sky. It was coming towards me. It looked like a big bird. As the image drew nearer, I knew exactly who it was.

  Hesna!

He had big black wings and flew over the water. He flew above me and looked down at me with the same stupid grin.

“Why so sad?” he mocked me. “Greater love has no man than this; that a man lay down his life for his friend. You should be beaming from the love that was just displayed. So much love in one area, I just don’t know if I can stand it.” He belted out a horrible laugh.

He lowered himself to the ground. “You can only blame yourself. It’s entirely your fault, Missy. It was your selfishness. I told you. We are a lot alike. Enough is never enough.”

I was furious. The anger consumed every inch of my body and boiled within me. “I will kill you.”

But when I got up to fight him, my angel wasn’t with me. The anger must have pushed her out. He laughed at my hopeless effort before he flew away.

I watched as he got away.

“Vengeance is mine says the Lord.” A voice echoed within me.

I sat back down and cried.

But will you at least use me. I know right now I am angry. My dad is gone and I want him back. I know vengeance is yours, but I have to pick up where he left off. I have to serve you. People need me.

Jif came to my side. “I’m so sorry Missy. He fought well. You know he’s in a better place.”

I looked back at the solemn expressions on everyone’s face.

“We must go on.” I stood to address the crowd. “That all of this not be in vain. You see what will happen if you turn from God’s teaching. We must spread the word of Hesna’s deception. We must reach as many people as we can. We must be careful not to allow the enemy to seep within us. We must follow God and seek him with all our heart. He has shown us what he can and will do. We must now show Him what we can do. We must show Him how we will serve Him, praise Him, and love Him unconditionally. We will not cower, but run to all unknowing. Hesna is still here. The fight is not over. Even after Hesna is gone, there will always be one. Who will stand and fight for the Lord? The one who spared your life? We have witnessed His marvelous works and know that He is real. We must ensure the world knows this as well.”

Swangi came to me and pulled a little Bible out of his pocket. “I saw your Dad put this in your bag. I took it out because I figured it was important and with all the chaos you may not get the bag.” He handed me the Bible.

I opened it up and there was a letter and a fold of thousands of dollars. I read the letter and knew what I had to do. I hugged them and told them goodbye.

“Where will you go?” Mongo asked.

“I have to find Hesna. I have to stop him.” I answered him.

“Then I will come too.” He told me.

The others quickly agreed as well.

Swangi said he would lead the people to a new land and return to tell my mother of the news. I told him to tell her, as soon as I can, I will write to her and Phillip. He said, he would join us later.

“With a little faith, Peter was able to walk on water. Today, we will run.” I said as I sprinted out on the open ocean in the direction Hesna flew away.

The others joined me. We praised and thanked God for the ability as we ran across the waves. It felt amazing to be used by God and to defy reason. Then, we felt our angels as we were propelled into the horizon. I took a special moment to hear my father’s voice through the letter.

“Missy, I know you are not a Bible scholar. I know you want to find yourself and get as far away from us as possible to do so. I know you want to be free. But the freedom you seek is temporary and will lead to an eternity of bondage. The battle between Heaven and Hell is real. Satan and his demons are real. After what you have seen so far, I’m sure you believe me now. I don’t know how much longer I will be with you. I feel my time is coming to an end. I need you to accept your mission, your purpose. God didn’t just call me, he called you and Phillip, too. You are my predecessors. This is your purpose- to fight for God’s people. If you are reading this, it is because it has already started. Know that I will forever be with you. You can do all things through Christ who strengthens you. One day, we will fight together again. I love you”

I closed my eyes and remembered our last touch. He had told me he loved me. Before the waves consumed him, I had told him too.

Even though I don’t know all there is to know about the Bible, he had to kn
ow I would learn. Even though I have never had the desire before, he had to know I would fight. One day, we will meet again. Until that day, I choose to carry the cross. I choose to serve the Lord God Almighty, the God of Abraham, Moses and Isaac.

Choose ye this day whom ye will serve...
