Rick grinned again. “That’s one of my favourite bits – but I much prefer the story between the guy who’s a writer and the girl Aurelia.”

Zoe sighed. “Oh, my God – that is so my favourite bit too.”

“Fate.” Rick murmured as she sat back down next to him and snuggled into his side as if she’d been made to fit there.

“Fate.” She agreed, “So are we watching it now – or saving it for Christmas?”

Rick grinned at her, “Let’s save it for Christmas.”

“It’s only June.” Zoe said quietly, biting her lip.

Rick smiled and squeezed her shoulder. “I know that – but I’ve got a feeling we’ll have a lot of movies to get through between now and then – don’t you?”

Zoe looked up at him and smiled. There was hope for a better future in that sentence. “Yeah,” she agreed, “I think we will.”

  Three Wishes

  Chapter I

Kit looked around the dingy room she was being put up in. “Jeez, surely I’m worth more than this.” she muttered.

Pam, her Mentor, had sent her on her third mission in the same number of weeks and she was feeling a little cranky.

She grimaced as she thought about her last mission. She had failed miserably. But to be fair, how was she supposed to have known that the Prince was allergic to cats?

She had thought that he had wished for loads of them – “Wall to wall,” he had said.

When she really thought about it, it was quite obvious he had been thinking of something else entirely. She blushed furiously as she remembered the horror of it all – she would happily have sent him to a brothel – if it hadn’t turned out to be his final wish...of course she hadn’t meant to kill him....

“Too bad, the dirty old man,” she muttered as she shook her hair back and squinted through the grubby window into a rather nice garden. The flower beds could do with a few nicer flowers and the grass needed a good tidy up. She wondered what lurked in the greenhouse – maybe she could check that out tomorrow...

Sighing she turned back towards the bed. Her notes were strewn across the worn duvet cover. Guiltily she gathered them up. The man whose home it was may not be the tidiest guy in the world, but she shouldn’t really be adding to the mess...

So what was it to be this time then? She checked her notepad. She murmured under her breath as she read.

“Thirty-something male, no children, one failed marriage due to...” she squinted at Pam’s untidy scrawl. “No!” she gasped as her eyes took in the next line. Oh, dear. The poor, poor man. Fancy his wife running off with another woman. – How shocking! thought Kit. She sat up straight and caught sight of her stunned face in the smeary mirror opposite. But maybe it wasn’t so shocking in 2010 – how was she to know? She had just been despatched from 1966 when it would have been shocking. But forty-four years on, who knew? Still – bad enough that she had run off – what on earth had she been thinking? Marrying him in the first place if she batted for the other team, so to speak? Kit shook her head. She would never understand humans as long as she existed – which could well be forever if no one cut off her head...and, she admitted ruefully to herself, she had been around for a good many years already. She scrambled off the bed and checked her appearance critically in the mirror; having just arrived from 1966, she was particularly fond of her white plastic boots and black and white check dress. She sighed, it wasn’t really en vogue for 2010 though...She closed her eyes and pictured the latest shop window of New Look; she had one last peek of her outfit, blew it a kiss goodbye and snapped her fingers. Opening her eyes she looked herself up and down in the dingy mirror and pulled a face. It was modern – stylish even, but not quite so va-va-voom as what she’d arrived in...shame.
