I know Becky. Why?
ANDREW
She told me to meet her or Chelsea here when I arrived in London.
DAVID
Oh. Hey, wait a minute. Your American, right?
ANDREW Yes, I am.
DAVID
You must be that guy Becky’s been talking about, the one who rescued Chelsea from a burning car.
ANDREW
Yes, I guess that’s me. My name’s Andrew.
Andrew reaches his hand out to shake David’s. David reciprocates.
DAVID Mine’s David.
David takes a step back into the house and turns to look down the hallway behind him. He then turns back to Andrew.
DAVID (CONT'D)
Chelsea’s in the shower right now. Come in and have a seat. I will let her know you’re here.
Andrew looks into the doorway, then back at David.
ANDREW
That’s alright. I don’t want to intrude on the two of you.
DAVID
Don’t worry about.
Andrew steps back on the steps, turning toward the street with his head hanging low. A light drizzle starts to fall.
ANDREW
Chelsea’s busy, I’m sure. I will just head over to my hotel. It’s not supposed to be far from here.
The puzzled look returns to David’s face.
DAVID
Are you sure? It’s starting to rain.
Andrew steps back to the sidewalk, puts the briefcase back on his shoulder and grabs the handle on the suitcase.
ANDREW
It’s fine. It will give me a chance to clean up after the flight. I will wait to hear back from Rebecca about the rest of the day.
DAVID Right.
David stands for a few seconds, then pulls the door around and shuts it. Andrew begins to walk down the sidewalk to the cross street in the distance. Camera shot pulls back to view of entire street and houses.
Scene 3
INT. RESTAURANT DAY AFTERNOON
Andrew is seated at a table for four next to a window looking out into a courtyard. Chelsea and Rebecca approach from side of dining room Andrew is facing. He rises from his chair as they walk up to opposite side of table.
REBECCA
Hi, Andrew. Its nice to finally meet you in person.
Rebecca reaches her hand out, and Andrew does the same, giving hers a light shake.
ANDREW
Nice to meet you, too.
Andrew turns to Chelsea.
ANDREW (CONT'D) Hi.
Chelsea remains standing next to the table.
CHELSEA Hello.
Chelsea pulls her chair out and sits down.
CHELSEA (CONT'D) How was your flight?
Andrew watches Chelsea sit, and then looks to Rebecca. Rebecca gives a small smile and sits down next to Chelsea, closer to the window and directly opposite Andrew. Andrew then sits down.
ANDREW
It was fine. Long but fine.
Chelsea picks up a menu from the table and opens it.
CHELSEA
Yes, I’m very familiar with that flight.
Rebecca gives Chelsea a brief look of consternation, then turns to Andrew.
REBECCA
You mentioned in your text that your flight arrived early.
Andrew drops his eyes for a moment, then turns to Rebecca.
ANDREW
I was put on an earlier flight because the original one was cancelled. Fortunately, I was at the airport early enough for them to do that.
REBECCA
Sooo...what have you been up to all morning?
Andrew gives a look back at Chelsea, then turns back to Rebecca.
ANDREW
I just came to my hotel. They let me check in early so I could shower and change clothes.
Rebecca looks down and picks up her menu.
REBECCA
I’m glad that worked out.
Chelsea looks up from her menu and at Andrew.
CHELSEA
Actually, he came by my flat first.
Andrew looks back at Chelsea. Rebecca puts her menu back down and looks at Andrew.
REBECCA
Oh. You went to the address I sent you?
Chelsea quickly turns to Rebecca.
CHELSEA
You gave him my address?
Rebecca turns to Chelsea.
REBECCA
Yes, I did. For this exact reason, in case our signals got crossed.
CHELSEA
Why didn’t you give him your address?
REBECCA
Because, silly me thought you might welcome him when he arrived.
Rebecca turns to Andrew.
REBECCA (CONT'D) I gather she was less than welcoming?
Andrew starts to speak, but stops as Chelsea speaks.
CHELSEA
I didn’t answer the door...
Chelsea pauses, then turns to Andrew.
CHELSEA (CONT'D) ...David did.
Chelsea drops her head back behind her menu. Rebecca turns back to Chelsea.
REBECCA
David answered the door! What was he doing there?
Andrew’s nervousness has changed to discomfort. He shifts himself in his chair and picks up his menu.
CHELSEA
Calm down. I was out last night and I ran into him at Brodo’s. I might have had a little too much to drink and he gave me a lift back to the flat.
Rebecca leans closer to Chelsea and lowers her voice.
REBECCA
Really. You knew Andrew was coming in today and you shack up with your ex.
Chelsea lifts her gaze to Andrew.
CHELSEA
What does him being here have anything to do with my private life?
Chelsea turns to Rebecca.
CHELSEA (CONT'D) And since when was what I do any of his business?
Rebecca sits back in her chair. She lifts up her menu without saying a word.
Andrew sets his menu down, pushes his chair back and stands up. Rebecca and Chelsea both look up at him.
REBECCA You’re not leaving, are you?
Andrew turns his head to look at Rebecca.
ANDREW
I think it’s best I do.
Rebecca looks at Chelsea briefly before looking back up at Andrew. Chelsea drops her gaze back to the menu.
REBECCA
No, you should stay. I’m sorry we were arguing in front of you.
Andrew turns back to Chelsea.
ANDREW
It’s obvious this was a mistake. She doesn’t have any interest in knowing me. I don’t want to waste anymore of her time.
Andrew pushes his chair back up to the table and turns back to Rebecca.
ANDREW (CONT'D) Thank you for buying me the ticket and arranging for the hotel. I will pay for the room and I will reimburse you for the ticket.
Rebecca starts to speak, but Andrew proceeds to walk out of the restaurant the way Chelsea and Rebecca came in.
Rebecca turns to Chelsea. She looks at her for a few moments before speaking.
REBECCA
There are times when I wonder how I can still stomach calling you a friend of mine.
Rebecca puts her menu down, her elbows on the table, and her face in her hands. Chelsea looks up, her gaze directed across the table.
CHELSEA
What’s going on here?
Chelsea turns to Rebecca.
CHELSEA (CONT'D) Was this supposed to be a thank you lunch or were trying to set me up with him?
Chelsea continues to look at Rebecca, who doesn’t lift her head.
CHELSEA (CONT'D)
Oh, my god. This was a set up.
Rebecca lifts her head up and sits back in her chair, now looking across the table.
CHELSEA (CONT'D)
What the hell is wrong with you? He is way too old for me.
Chelsea turns back facing forward and pic
ks up her menu.
REBECCA His name is Andrew..
Rebecca turns to look at Chelsea.
REBECCA (CONT'D) And what does age have to do with anything? From the numerous talks he and I have had, I’ve found him to be a very smart and sensitive man. He’s obviously got courage, and you have to admit, despite the thinning hair, he is not bad to look at.
Chelsea turns back to Rebecca.
CHELSEA
What makes you think that Andrew is the guy for me?
Chelsea turns forward and picks up her menu.
CHELSEA (CONT'D) If he is so great, why don’t you ask him out?
Rebecca lifts her left hand and extends her ring finger with a gold band attached.
REBECCA Duh..
Rebecca turns forward again and picks up the menu.
REBECCA (CONT'D) With your track record with the opposite sex, I think someone with a bit more maturity would do you some good.
A waiter comes over to the table.
WAITER
Have you decided?
Rebecca and Chelsea both turn to the waiter and in unison say
“No.”
Scene
INT. HOTEL ROOM AFTERNOON
Andrew is seated on the end of the bed in his hotel room. His head is turned to the window. A knock is heard on the hotel room door.
Andrew gets up, walks to the door, and opens it. Rebecca is standing outside the door.
REBECCA Hi.
ANDREW Hi.
REBECCA Can we talk?
ANDREW Sure.
Andrew opens the door completely and steps aside so Rebecca can enter. Rebecca walks in and stops a few feet past Andrew, turning to face him. Andrew shuts the door and turns around to face Rebecca.
ANDREW (CONT'D)
I’m sorry I walked out on you and Chelsea. That was pretty rude of me.
REBECCA
Perfectly understandable. I’m sorry it was so awkward.
Andrew walks past Rebecca into the room and sits down on the end of the bed. Rebecca follows and sits in a chair by the window, facing Andrew.
REBECCA (CONT'D)
What are you going to do now?
Andrew looks at Rebecca.
ANDREW
What do you mean?
Rebecca leans forward, looking directly into Andrew’s eyes.
REBECCA
You are in love with her, aren’t you?
Andrew gets up and walks over to the window. He stands silently looking out the window.
REBECCA (CONT'D) It was in your voice whenever we talked. You were so excited, looking forward to seeing her...
ANDREW
It was that obvious, huh?
REBECCA
So incredibly obvious.
Rebecca stands up and walks over to Andrew. Andrew is still looking out the window.
REBECCA (CONT'D) Then at the restaurant, after running into David, it
