Chapter 6
The base of the twin waterfalls began to glow as, one by one, the Aazronians returned to their home world through the Druid portal. The familiar sky, clustered with stars and home to their five great towers, was a welcome sight. The abominations were nowhere to be seen. Gaiana was the last to leave the cool water, sealing the portal behind her.
"Rangers, take point please," she commanded.
"It doesn't look good over there. The abominations stand guard at the ancient portal. Heaven help anyone that comes through," remarked one of the Rangers, the glow of his eyes fading with his farsight.
"Heaven's help? That can be arranged," John retorted, lifting his war hammer. Anger fuelled his magic as he turned to Dalynia. "You don't need me here. You have enough Rangers to take out the Emperor's army. I have a duty to perform."
Dalynia knew she couldn't change his mind so instead; she kissed him on the cheek and nodded her assent. "Be careful. Don't expend too much magic or your armor will fail."
"It isn't magic that charges my armor. It's faith that fortifies it."
"You know what I mean!" she smiled. "The last thing this world needs is to lose their Golden Apothecary. We don't want Emperor Kayne sending a Bishop instead!"
John sighed, his anger waning. "As always, you are correct." He grinned, winked at her and continued, "I'll be sure to take regular breaks between bashing."
"Enough chat, it's time to go," commanded Gaiana.
