Chapter 7.
Raphael: Angel Ruler of Sunday. The Sun and the yellow and gold ray.
The card of healing, energy, science and knowledge.
Our first year of living together passed by in a flash. Mickey had become used to Ben and was forever sitting with him, wanting to be stroked.
One Sunday Ben got up early and announced that we needed to go into town to collect a gift. I was very excited, which Mickey must of picked up on, as I could hear his tail wagging and pounding on the floor. We arrived at the a jewellery store and I felt the heat of the spotlights on the my head and face. Ben bought me a gold story wheel bracelet along with a sold gold heart threaded onto in. He placed in my wrist and told me that me that he loved me and that I had his heart forever. I felt goosebumps take over me and I went weak at the knees when he kissed me. I touched the gold heart and felt love and passion for him. I wore that story-wheel bracelet everyday and constantly touched the gold heart, it made me feel loved and wanted.
Ben worked full time, as a Mental Health social worker for the Local NHS trust, he was always very busy and led an extremely full life, as I used to before I lost my sight. I was still attending the day centre, but my role there had changed slightly, I began helping out there and was keen to help and assist others who have issues with their sight. Eventually the Manager, Penny asked me if I would like to work there full time. I would help people in the centre and share my experiences with them. She explained that this role was funded by the NHS and I would be expected to go to University, Part time and under a specialist counselling course. At the end of three years I would be employed as a NHS Sight Loss Specialist Counsellor, one of the first in the country, as this was a pilot scheme. I accepted her offer straight away, then immediately worried about if I could cope with all of the academic work involved. Penny explained that I would have a PA and that she would type up any notes during lectures and assist me to type out essays and assignments. The whole job was a complete dream come true, I felt useful again and was able to pass on my knowledge and experience of sight loss to others.
Like anyone, I have bad days and good days, but I am grateful for what I have and what I have learnt to cope with. Sometimes I want to see Max's face again and see just how handsome Ben and Mickey are. Sometimes I want to see my angel cards, but I can still see them in my minds eye and I draw strength from the daily. I really do believe that every one has a guardian angel looking over them, protecting them and keeping them safe. My angel is here with me, I am sure.
