He looked so vulnerable, wondering if she had the same feelings he did.
She didn’t understand how, but everything they’d been through in the last, could it really be less than two days, they’d formed a bond deeper than she’d ever imagined she could have with another being, human or shifter.
She took his face in her hands and made him look at her, understand what was in her heart. “This whole mating thing pushed against every fear I’ve had about where I am in my life and what I thought was supposed to happen.”
Steele placed his hand over hers on his cheek “I’m sorry, baby.”
“Don’t be. I’m glad it happened. My whole world has flipped, turned upside down, and thank goodness. I’ve been fighting against you and myself since the minute you walked in my door dressed as a fireman stripper. But, I am done.”
He searched her eyes. “What are you saying, Fleur?”
“I’m never again living in fear. I can and will make my own decisions in life, take responsibility for being who I truly am. You helped me find that part of me, it was buried so deep inside.”
“No more waiting for your destiny?”
“Nope. I am me, and destiny can shove it. Who needs it when I’ve got you?”
Her life and her choices were her own and she would take responsibility for them and their outcomes.
“I’ll do everything I can, every day to be worthy of you.”
“You shut that sexy dragon mouth. You don’t have to work for my love. I give it unconditionally to you.”
Steele pulled her hands from his face and clasped them in his. Then he moved so that he was kneeling before her. “Fleur, my little flower, you’ve brought a magic into my life I never dreamed could ever exist. When I met you, I thought being a dragon warrior was the extent of my fate. You might not know what your destiny is supposed to be, and I’ll be there to help you find it if you want. But, I know mine. It’s you.”
Tears bubbled up in Fleur’s eyes. She opened and closed her mouth three times trying to find something to say. She had no words.
“Shh, baby. I don’t need you to say anything, but one word. I will be by your side forever more, the mark you wear forever shows the dragon world that you are mine. Will you marry me and let the rest of the world know too?”
She still couldn’t talk, but she could nod her head. Flowers burst up out of the floor, roses, and lilies, and orchids, and even a few daisies.
Steele pulled her down and kissed her until they both wanted more.
“Yes, yes, Steele.” Fleur knew then that she’d found her true destiny, in her true mate.
